Logo Nintendo66 Rayman Legends - Wii U Trailer

So, the trailer for the new Rayman game has been leaked (Flash video) ahead of E3.

It certainly looks very impressive; there's a lot of stuff being thrown around on-screen. The Upad integration looks ok, about what you'd expect from a first-gen game. As for the toys, well that was an inevitability, considering the success of Skylanders and the Upad having built-in NFC, which does about the same job as Skylanders' RFID technology.

This is only the start though. As well as Skylanders Giants and this, I reckon there'll be at least another couple of games with NFC toys for the Xmas Wii U release.

The follow-up article is quite an interesting read too.

So why is this a cash cow for Nintendo? One word, our friends. One word that we think popped into the head of Iwata, Reggie, Miyamoto and everyone else as soon as they saw Skylanders in action. Pokémon.

It's not exclusive to Nintendo's latest gimmick box.

Man, I just love this idea of buying plastic figures to put stuff in the game. I think Capcom should adopt it. You wanna play as Zangief in SF V? Well, better go to the store to buy his figure then!

Skylanders was just the start. Considering its success, the whole 'interactive toy' thing was an inevitability. Over the next 5 years expect to see a U game of every kids' IP you can possibly think of with corresponding iToys.

And considering the incredible amount of revenue this is going to generate on a worldwide basis, don't be shocked when Sony and Microsoft announce that their new systems are going to feature controllers with an NFC chip.

The whole putting toys on the screen to "add" to the game just goes to show that the Wii-U is just another Wii. Gimmicky crap aimed at making you spend more money for what? To put something on a screen? Great leap in game play mechanics you have there guys

I will say this though, it does look nice.

I will get this if a traditional Pokémon game is released. No doubt in my mind. xD

I'm playing Rayman Origins on the Vita now, its got a steep difficulty curve but its very addicting and fun. The artwork is amazing.

Also this video was an "internal development" video meant for their own dev teams, according to the official statement by ubisoft. I like the licensed music used throughout like Back to the Future.

Cant see where is the "amazing" graphics, pretty much standard stuff for 2DHD platformer these days

BTW it was really funny to see those actors pretending to be the average player of this game

Is like those college tv ads showing a bunch of kids of every race and social group studying at the library or partying: it real life its all white people, and half of them lives off campus so the place is fucking empty during weekends

It does look really nice, but it looks way too complicated to play But you're right, same thing, same greed, different platform!!!

myy wife, she LOVES spyro games.

but we did not buy skylanders because of those retarded figurines.

we arent six year old kids, dont need to collect crap that will gather dust.
we arent stupid, but educated consumers who could see that it was a marketing ploy made to sell us pieces of plastic... thats all.

i was just thinking exactly that. sony and MS will put NFC in their controllers because simply put each piece of software brings in some more licensing money, and they do not want to miss out on that.

    This.

I've got the Vita version too- it is fun to play when I'm on the go or sitting around and bored. The figurines though? Fuck me that's just stupid. I though Ubisoft was a fairly good software producer too...
