    Recent purchase- VCD model PS1

Yes, another great leap towards an awesome Playstation collection- and this one was found on the local craigslist.

$150 bucks for a VCD white PS1 in great shape, just missing the parallel port cover. Came with controllers and cables, no box. So, here's what I've gotten so far. Anyone interested in selling a green debug?

Thanks. I'm surprised that no-one on craigslist tried to buy this (ave???) because he's had it up before for the entire 30 day lifetime with NO responses.

haven't seen one of the VCD ones for about 10 years, a friend bought one back from China with him and we were gobsmacked when he dropped a VCD in and it just played, great little console

Was VCD on the PSX (regardless of being 1st party or 3rd party) anywhere near as good as it was on the Saturn with proper MPEG daughter card? I've never seen a 1st party VCD unit, so I could only speculate. My assumption is no?

I was happy to find one, I'm collecting Sony too, so this was a great find. Locally was just the cherry on top.

Sorry to not get back to you trenton, but I've never head of the Saturn with an MPEG daughter card. I'm sure Google has the answers though.

They slide deep into the mysterious rear port. Almost all Saturns have it, rarely if ever seeing much use. Sega issued PAL & JPN cards yet no US card. You have to use some kind of region hack to play VCD on a US system.

Saturn MPEG cards seem harder to find than they used to be. I've held onto mine for whatever reason. Not many VCDs I know about that wouldn't be easier or more legal to find on DVD.

It's difficult to even look up info about the format's American releases. I'm sure there's some, but my one VCD I bought local (for testing) is from Singapore originally.

That's how I feel about finding my Test PS3 with a prototype Dual Shock 2 controller locally.

If I remember correctly, didn't the CD-i or 3DO have an MPEG addon? Because they definitely had English released VCD's (like Cliffhanger) which mention that they only work on systems with the VCD card. As for legit releases in general, you'll mostly find those in China, Taiwan, HK, and perhaps Japan. Companies like Warner Music, Sony, etc release VCDs for the local market.

The CD-i had an addon card for some systems, for others it was built in. It was needed for games like Dragons Lair.
