    CD64 Zip drive mod?

Just got a CD64 shipped to me for a fairly good price, but I'm no fan of CD's. I'd prefer if it could use... Zip disks!

Has anyone opened one up before? I'd like to know if it's possible to replace the CD drive with a high density Zip drive.
Must be a standard CD drive (IDE) and the Z64 uses Zips, so...?

What do you mean by that? Drivers for the CD64?

As the owner of several zip drives and oodles of zip disks, why the fuck would you want to do this? 750mb is the largest zip disk IIRC and that is just 50mb more than a CD. The reliability factor is there too making zip disks pathetic by comparison to CDs.

If anything I'd be after a DVD drive or CF mod. Could have the entire rom set with room to spare.

And FYI there are no "drivers" for the CD64 (to my knowledge). It would require a rewritten BIOS or a modified BIOS AFAIK.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

I know, strange. I'm just a huge Zip fan. No reason why, I know they suck.
It's also strange that I love tape drives. CDs and DVDs are just... boring? not sure what hits me about Zip and tape, but they're just cool.

Ah, I figured as much, regarding the "drivers". I'm not huge in programming, so I guess I'll be stuck with CD's until I grab a Z64.

I own 40+ Laserdiscs, multitudes of Zip drives, Superdisks and several other obsolete formats. I'm a whore for them but I can't imagine wanting to put something like them into daily use these days.

I'm strange that way. I once built an up to date machine and added in a tape drive (not obsolete, but not useful). Who knew they made SATA tape drives?
It's the whole "ritual" involved in ejecting and inserting large, magnetic storage media I suppose.

heh that's a bizarre request. Why not just get a Z64 unit instead that requires Zip disks?

No don't rip apart a CD64 for such a stupid format. You would also have to remake the firmware to read it, much like the CF mod for the V64, it will also look stupid too as it does in the V64.
