Batman: Dark Tomorrow build from an Xbox debug kit

I've just received an Xbox debug kit which contains two builds of Batman: Dark Tomorrow (HotGen Studios, published by Kemko). It boots to a title screen containing a level select, has a long intro FMV (looks fairly polished) and then into a very buggy and crashy game.

I haven't played the finished game so not sure what's different about this build. Anyone interested?

If these kits have some sort of screenshot functionality over the network (like the 360's do) I'll gladly post some shots, just need to find the XDK for it first.

Sorry for the delay, the XDK doesn't like Windows 7 very much. I also don't seem to be able to take shots of an FMV, I'll try and work something out later:

I can't get much more than that, it's very crashy and most of the levels on the level select just point to the intro FMV.

The game folder weighs in at around 1.2GB. What are the rules on hosting something like that? It's a released game, around 10 years old.

No map, unfinished hud, debug info, it looks like a pretty interesting stuff

I dont know if it works right for american users but Mediafire allow 200MB and you can download all the parts at the same time. Its the best host (at least for spanish users)

You can upload there if you want and i can mirror it to some more host

    Thanks for sharing :D

Id love to check it out. Interesting that your debug kit has an early build of the XDK launcher on it, not many seem to anymore.

Cheers, but it's more the legal/site rules I was wondering about rather than the technical challenge.

Yep, need to make sure I don't get trigger-happy with the Flash button else I'll lose it. Any idea what improvements the later versions include? I only have experience with 360 kits.

Oh dear, seems the HDD isn't very healthy, I keep getting drive errors whilst trying to copy. There's obviously enough readable data for the game to boot and run a few levels, are there any file copy tools which would copy "as much as it can" without bailing out after the first failed file? Windows XP file copy, wonderful tool </sarcasm>

You could boot a dashboard that has FTP access and do it that way.

Not at all familiar with what you can do with Xbox hardware, but if you can actually connect the HDD to a PC and get direct access to it, your best bet is to take a full disk image of the drive ASAP. The disk image will contain every readable sector of data on the drive. If the drive is physically failing it could go at anytime, and doing a drive image will ensure you get everything you can before the drive goes. I personally use http://www.r-studio.com for this kind of task, it's the best software out there for data recovery IMO. As I said though, not sure if it's possible to do this with an Xbox drive, never looked into it.

That sounds the best bet. I know the drive have a lock/unlock mechanism which can be circumvented with a few tricks (Munch's Oddesey save trick, playing an audio CD) - I've done it a few times to soft-mod retail boxes. I wonder if the devkits are the same.

Probably a fucking retarded question here but often these kits come with nothing special on the HDD which to me seems odd as these won't have never been used. Could a file recovery program such as recuva be used to find old files that were deleted but hopefully not overwritten or do they use a filesystem that isn't compatible with most programs?

A studio doesn't necessarily have to store the game data on its HDD. The full XDKs have DVD emulators, and since the SDK has a bare winsock layer any good developer can make tools to transfer game data over the network. It saves a HELL of a lot of time.

That, and I'm pretty sure if a studio let go of a kit they would be stupid not to wipe the drive first. Even if they are naughty and sell it on eBay instead of giving it back to Microsoft, which I'm sure the contract insists they do.

No worries just curious and anxious. You might try to ftp it off like borman suggested to see if that will work before doing the full backup from the pc but either way the data has to get off that drive.
