Seems like a retail flash to me... Might have to play through the game to really tell though..

I am loving this thread. As said, Try pressing different combinations of buttons to see if there is a debug menu, and compare to a retail rom. Good luck mate :P

Just once I would like to find a dev item at carpark markets or something XD

Try by pressing ab and start, or other combos.

thetasigma dont give up i found this cart in a pawn shop =D

i am unsure if it has a debug menu or not i tried a few variations of A,B start, select but its always possible i hit the wrong combinations so this is one of 3 things as far as i am concerned its either a Retail flash , a Pre release copy of the game due to the year on the cart the Aus and USA retail versions came late 2000 or a Proto im going to compare it to the retail rom later and any early differences will be mentioned perhaps pictures will be taken if i find a major bug

ok i am down to pre release and Retail flash on dev card but how on earth did the game get on the cart ? and why did the cart come out the exact same year as pokemon gold ? D: this thing confuses me a bit with that

Just looked at the opening and stuff is it normal for ROMs to be slower then Actual hardware ?? i notice the opening is slower on the ROM

Chances are it was just a review copy for a magazine before the game was produced on retail carts.
You should probably still check if it has the same checksum as the retail binary image, though. There may still be hidden but disabled debug functions.

Only way to know for sure is to dump it and compare romsize.

But rom size can match between versions. It's best to compare checksums.

You need additional tools to dump the data from the cart. Then you get the checksum of that and compare it to a retail rom of the same game to see if it is the same or not.

You can use HxD to calculate the checksums.
ROM size doesn't matter much as they're always padded with 0x00 or 0xFF to the next 2^x unless trimmed.

You could dump it by using a transferer II by EMS I'm pretty sure.

How exciting! I'm waiting to see what he's got here!
Plus I guess I now know the value of a dev cart. Wow, I've got to keep watch for those..

The Transferer 2 was about £30 when i got mine, the site I got it from (consolegoods.co.uk) doesn't look to sell them anymore though. I'm sure someone here will know alternate sites to buy stuff like that from though.

If your in the UK i would happily dump it for you if you have no luck finding one, I need an excuse to use my
    Transferer again.

The only place where I could find one is directly from the manufacturer.

ok i see that thing now 2 potential problems for me is that i have a Vista computer and nothing else D: so if the software does not support my laptop i wont be able to fix it myself :s and the other issue is my laptop has a 15 pin port and that looks bigger so i may need some sort of cable that goes from my laptop to the Transferers cable if that will work does the transferer only have the usb and port thing ?? or does it have another connection the more connections it has the worse it gets for me as i dont have a desktop computer

Wasn't dumping only working with the N64 ones? I don't remember any Game Boy cheat device that would be able to do so.

Yes, you will need a historic printer port (LPT) with an older operating system (pre vista for sure) to get the old Game Boy tools and devices working. Remember all this was released when everyone was still using Windows 98. USB was also still brand new and not widely used yet.
