and the PCB around the eproms looks blurry as fuck? as if someone pasted in the eproms and blurred the edges?

I don't think it's entirely fake like that, someone faking this wouldn't know the component positions. It looks to me like the cart was scanned hence the poor focus and the blurring.
    those who can't make, mod

Good possibility now that I think about it. I don't usually scan things and this is the exact reason why. Fixed focal points are great for scanning paper but less so when you have a book with a binding getting in the way.

Still not convinced but there is but less than a day until April Fools.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

The area around the EPROMs doesn't look out of focus, it looks smudge tooled

So, on the 1st of April the "prototype" has been revealed: a Mario is Missing proto, which is the same as the final...

So how is it a prototype if its the same as retail?

Its just a reviewer copy by the look of things?

I've seen people who used actual dev hardware to make elaborate hoaxes of prototypes. It would've been nothing new.

Hey guys, I'd just like to post about this new prototype I've found. It exists on a CD, so without further ado I present to you... MARIO

's FUNdamentals. The data is dated as March 2nd 1998 so hopefully there are lots of differences

When we told you last month that we had a “nearly unplayable… historic Mario prototype for the NES” to share, we weren’t joking. We do. In the most literal sense, the game is extremely hard to play through and sickeningly historical, indeed.
    TRANSLATION:

we came up with kick-ass click bait. Thanks for all the pageviews, google rank now thinks we are far more relevant than we should be!!

sadly enough, the article that accompanies it is not poorly written at all:

The header is 41, aka 4/1 aka April 1st.
