UPC database is not something official where company register their code for their product.

It's rather customer who register the code on that database. So since this was found a only a few week ago it's normal that the entry is not older.

Something hits me as odd here, so back in 1995 or whenever this was produced, you telling me SNK would have gone through the cost of producing 5 games, that's sounds a little stinky, you would go supplier of labels, manuals, covers and say, just 5 of these please? you would have to buy a large number would you not? I assume the chips to be the same, would a company really only produce x5 of a product, and then somebody who works there, takes them home, locks them in a shed, and then never considers for the next 20 years that's this is worth a shed load (well more than the shed) of big ones, guess I would understand more if it was at the end of SNK's life, but this was the good years right??

Now this is crazy talk, but does paper, plastic, label glue, etc etc have a scientific way of determining the very rough age of said item, all this the label is just as shiny and another, or the labels the same size, as Dion has point out a number of times, it must now be quite possible or make perfect copy of a game, and at 30 us K's it would be worth the effort.

Sure I am wrong, but that's to me seems to be the sticking point in my mind...

It is possible there are more of the game out there. It's possible they were some sort of samples. And it's certainly possible they are counterfeit. Chances are you will never know for sure.

Sorry for bumping this thread but this link is related to this game:
    http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showth...M-161-in1-ETC)
The guys at Neo-Geo.com claim that the $30,000 game is a fake.

    mwahahaha
I'm not a big Dion's fan but it's so funny to see that Tonk, the dude who was so agressive toward him is nothing more than a scammer.
the neo geo collecting world is just hilarious. and it has been for, like, 15 years ?

  7. #47
so the NGDevTeam is in on it too from what I gather?

edit: nm didn't see them defending themselves, guilty by association I guess.

but the scammer is the guy who made the phantom adapter? this is ridic

Good to see that I wasn't the only one who noticed that.

The Neogeo community is by far the easiest to scam. It's full of idiots.

I see the joking undertone, but I can't help but add that the SNES community is much worse. Mega Man X3, Vampires Kiss and Dracula XX fakes sell over and over again for 100's of $$$ and nobody ever learns from it. Super Nintendo fans may just be too young for the same scale of drama, but their idiotic capacity will grow over time :P
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?

  12. #52
X3 fakes are prevelant? Guess it makes sense but I wouldn't figure it given the need for the CX4, though I guess the price diff between X2 and 3 could still be profitable

I guess another idea is Japanese boards with US rom and shell. Casuals would never notice a different chip solder into their game.

Neogeo stuff sells for 10x the price point compared to anything on the SNES.

And seriously have you read that topic on the neo-geo.com forum? It's like everyone there is a 12 year old. It looks like a typical Ezboard from 2001.

I've been reading the NG forum pretty much all day to day because of this debacle. It's crazy that so many "veteran" members got caught up in this apparent scam.

this drama over a fake ? game is kinda funny =P its rather entertaining as well ! it would suck to buy a game for 30K only to find out it was fake ! what happens if some chinese company gets there hands on Neo Geo Shells and starts making their own mass production fakes like this one ? lol

You should go for the MVS route.
Cheap games, easy to spot boots.

And you can always order a shockbox and have a nicebox with an A3 insert.

    Fuck AES \,,/

BTW, according to mame drivers those are the MVS exclusive games:
    janshin ) /* MVS ONLY RELEASE */
    fightfev ) /* MVS ONLY RELEASE *
    gururin ) /* MVS ONLY RELEASE */

yeah going AES is way too expensive at this point, plus as evidenced by the NG thread it's a huge clusterfuck of idiots, I'd rather just have the mvs multicart and be done with it

Zupapa had some semi-official AES release by Dions company. As I recall, they had no license for that specific title but managed to push out copies as this was back in the confusion period when SNK ceased to exist and Playmore was busy getting their library of titles / rights. A later press release by SNKP mentioned that yes, dion has the rights to publish/distribute a list of titles, but Zupapa was not on that list.
And I'm pretty sure that it was a pirate cart too, some cheap title with its roms changed.
