My Game Genie mod. A remote switch for the lazy gamer.

I just got a Game Genie for the Genesis/ Mega Drive today. After messing with it for a while, I realized that getting up to hit the switch on the side of it to turn my entered codes on and off was getting old. So I opened it up. Found a switch and LED soldered to the board. Looking further, only 3 connections are used for the switch and LED. So I busted out my soldering iron and got busy making a remote switch and LED indicator for it.

Picture of completed mod. Yeah I made the remote wire a bit long. My couch is a good ways distance from my genesis and TV:

Here is the side where the original switch and LED are. Originals are intact and functional. I just added the new ones inline with the originals. You can also see where my remote wire exits the case:

Here it is plugged in and running. The code switch is off right now. As you can see, my guess work hole is really close to being too low for the remote wire. It has just enough clearance where it's at on my model 2. The remote switch has the indicator LED integrated into it for a smaller package:

Here's the remote switch turned on. Both the remote LED and original light up when turned on. Original switch works too:

And finally, a bonus of the Game Genie code enter screen running on my Genesis:

Hope you all enjoyed. If anyone needs a tutorial on how to do this, just shout out here and I'll post one in this thread. Now to go and play some Sonic 3... :cur_sonic:

Glad you all liked. Lazy innovation indeed. Once I plant my rear on the couch for some gaming, I don't want to move for anything. Since certain games with certain codes require them to be turned off and on for certain elements, I thought this up to save me the effort of getting up to turn switch off, play for 30 seconds, turn it back on. Do this 30 or more times in 30 minutes and it gets annoying really fast.

As for the wireless version, a simple single channel remote with a relay of some sort can do this. Don't know about the LED. Maybe an Arduino can be used to do this.

As for me, I will be refining the design to be built into my controller. Have the switch and LED in my 6 button turbo fire control on the left shoulder. Get a different cable to have enough conductors for the switch and LED. Put a plug on the Game Genie to unplug the remote if I need to.

I wouldn't say I like it, it's a pretty terrible mod (from technical point of view). But I appreciate the lazy creativity lol.

I know how I would make it wirelessly, I just lack a game genie, the need for it and the time to make it. :-)

I too can appreciate the laziness but damn, that poor thing is going to have some fun when someone trips over the wire.

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

I'm all alone and never have company so that won't be a problem. I will be revising it to have the remote built into my controller to take care of this issue.
