Slot 1 MVS - Adding Extra Buttons

    Hi Guys,

I bought an MVS slot 1 Arcade Machine over the weekend and after some cleanup and scrubbing its all working great, only a couple of games for it so far but working on that

now the problem i have is that my machine only has 3 buttons per player (2 player machine) and when i put Metal Slug X in to it, the game loads and I can play however i have no access to a "D" button, and im assuming im going to have this problem with more games as some use 6 buttons per player i believe

my question is how hard is it to add extra buttons into the cab? the jamma harness inside seems to have a few extra spaces on it but I have never even touched a Cab before (apart from playing on 1 when i was younger)

here is a picture of the cab (this was on the sale description online)

The mainboard has M1BBV written on it

thanks for any help and are their are Mods worth doing to these cabs?

I know some people think its against nature to modify a cab in any way but I wont be buying another one anytime soon so would be nice to have it the best it can be

Should just be a case of cutting in the holes and wiring in the buttons. Nothing difficult.

I want a cabinet, but that wont fly :(

Will go nice with your pool table!

    Cheers dude

she's let me go all out mate, the summer house is just waiting for carpet tiles and apart from the pool table and dart board i have been allowed a Mega Touch 2006.5 (pub quiz machine) and the Arcade machine, just waiting on a Touchscreen for a new Jukebox

you have other priorities tho mate  and i hope all is well with the family

yes i was thinking it should just be a case of cut and connect but wasn't sure and was hoping someone on here might have already done something similar

Metal Slug 1,2,X,3,4, and 5 all only need 3 buttons. NeoGeo only uses 4 buttons.

Make sure to plan out adding extra buttons to your CP. As they say measure twice and cut once. Usually NeoGeo has a curved line of 4 buttons but you might find you prefer a 2 x 2 layout instead. I know I do.

    Hi, thanks for the reply

I thought some games did use 6 but only because my friends cab has 6, so it confused me lol

when i load Metal Slug X it shows a picture of the blue "D" button as being missing, i just figured it must do something since its showing it as not there but i can still shoot, jump and throw bombs which is all i thought there was but am very new to the whole arcade side of things

well i was planning for the 6 button layout but if 4 is all thats needed then i shall have another think

    cheers

The Metal Slug games show the 'D' button crossed out because that isn't used. Is the cabinet MVS or jamma? If it is MVS then you will just install the buttons and wire them up. If the cabinet is jamma or if it is an MVS board with jamma you will need to wire them up from the jamma harness. Make sure you support the panel when your drilling the hole, you don't want to have to correct any unintended bends.

I like that cabinet, definitely a unique sticker/paint scheme on the front.

most mvs games dont utilise the 4th button unless they are fighting games

this site has most of the information about mvs and jamma differences etc http://www.hardmvs.com

as for adding a 4th button yes it is as simple as cutting the holes and and connecting 1 side to the correct harness pin and the other to the ground.
best of luck, arcade machines are a great hobby hopefully this one gives you alot of fun.

@AnalogWinter - Once i played it sober i realised it was telling me that the D button is not used and not that i have no D button available! - go figure lol
yes the cab is very unique in its color scheme, its all on the glass tho (no stickers) so can't be changed (not that i would of course)

@XiTaU - thanks for the link mate will check it out and i have still not been able to bring myself to cut it yet and a few of my friends have told me not to change it as its a nice cab without it

    cheers guys
