WAS celeb status place. Midtown stole a lot of that thunder, and the R. Hills residence is fucking hurting. My boss was in town and still has his TAC membership from when he was an expat. He was in the gym and two guys were in there talking. He overheard one tell the other he put a cheeky bid in at one of those 550,000 yen a month places, for 280,000 yen (90 sq meter 1BR) and they hit him!
That may seem a lot to some but 280,000 yen for that size in Minato-ku is a steal. That shit hole office my company rented was 30 sq meters (but a really, really goofy shape) was 168,000 yen.
My transportation costs are like 25,000 yen a year... and that's including about 10,000 for bicycle maintenance.living costs are a lot cheaper

The mass exodus of gaijin after the quake hasn't helped any renting company I'm sure. That building we used to live in has a huge sign in English saying tenants wanted. lol
My 2 apartments that I had before I got married were about that size, maybe a bit larger at 35-40 sq m and after the Lehman shock, were 120,000 each but in Hiroo. It was alright but it sat next to the highway and there were always kids or something being loud on weekend mornings in the underpass park thing.
That's what sucks cock about finding a place in this city. You find a nice place on paper, then you get there and it's literally next door to a mix-master. I actually put in a bid for a place in Shinsen that was on the fourth floor w/ no elevator. They wouldn't knock the 1-month key money off, so I told them to fuck off. Well... I just didn't call back.
I did look at one place in Uehara which was, no shit, 5cm away from the Odakyuu line, and on the 3rd floor. Their solution: double-pained windows. Haha.
>.< I now wanna live in japan.... I need to start saving money....
No elevator??? How would you move your CRT up there???
At the Hiroo place, had special noise reducing curtains made. It actually helped a decent bit but to be honest, I lived there for less than 2 weeks since I got engaged soon afterwards lol
Dave can probably tell you horror stories about that place.
I'd have paid someone. Honestly on a daily basis it wouldn't have bothered me. Low ceilings, so it's more like 3 floors in a "normal" building. The move in would have sucked shit but I cycle and walk everywhere, so a few flights of stairs are nothing. It was a pretty cool place too. Almost totally new, and the balcony itself was about 6-mats. Pretty cool. Oh, well. I think they got a tenant as I don't see it on suumo any more. Wonder if they finagled any.
What exactly am I looking at?
Some kind of concrete/asphalt depot (I think) right next to apts.
Don't see any apartments there, only office buildings...
Hahaha oh mannn that's funny
