    Corrupt Mega CD MK1 Bios

I powered on my mega cd the other day to play Road Avenger! ( :-( ) and was greeted with what only can be described as "Modem type noises" instead of the usual bios intro.

When starting the game the sonic (Sega) intro plays fine, but when the game music starts it yet again sounds like "Modem type noises"

Having done some research it looks like the BIOS is corrupted :-(

Does anyone know where I can buy the socket and multi bios that I can use to piggy back on the original bios?

There is a CHECKSUM test on the bios. If it was a BIOS problem you would see a RED or BLACK screen instead of having it boot up a game.

You definitely have been victim of corroded traces on the main board due to leaking capacitors. You should take imminent action to stop the damage (clean everything and replace all of the capacitors) before the damage propagates further. Considering that there's such noises, the sound buffer ram is already affected so some trace repair is necessary.

And there's a possibility that the same exact problem is happening on digital section of the audio board instead. Disassemble the unit and inspect all boards carefully.
