Assassin's Creed for PS2 - Does it really exist?

I think i read somewhere that AC started off as a PS2 title, but was eventually scrapped. Is this true or just total BS?

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it was designed from the ground up for Xbox 360. It was born from the original concept for Splinter Cell Conviction, in which Sam Fisher used crowds to remain hidden.

You can see a video of it here: http://youtu.be/31v5N9_5rZ8

The game was due to be released on November 16th, 2007, but was put officially on hold, until it was released on April 13, 2010.

The final game of SCC was changed drastically, and Assassin's Creed actually came out before it on November 14th 2007, 2 days earlier than SCC's original release date.

That leads me to believe that Assassin's Creed is basically the original version of Splinter Cell Conviction, with a few changes here and there.

    According to this: http://www.1up.com/news/last-gen-ass...creed-canceled

There was a PS2/Xbox version in the works at one point, but it was never the lead platform. It was a "last-gen" version developed alongside the 360/PS3/PC version with a totally different plot and game design. Ubisoft does that frequently, like with Double Agent or Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands.

It might have been a development mock-up as a base for the current gen versions of the game. Dead Space and Final Fantasy XIII went through a similar development cycle.

PyratRum: Read the link I posted above - no need for speculation, the developers already explained what was going on with it.
