Thread: Small micro sd card adaptor

    Small micro sd card adaptor

In my long quest of thought of how to make an SD card slot for the ED64 shell without a dremal I concluded the easiest way to do so is to simply not make one. The SD card only just pops out of the case and while there is no way to trim an SD card down to fit in an uncut case a micro SD card would fit easily.

I was wondering if anyone knew anywhere that you can buy a micro SD card adaptor that is smaller than a standard size SD card and consequently will fit in a standard N64 cart shell.

Someone made a post where they cut their SD card in half with scissors and then put some tape on it so they could pull it out of SD card slots. Most SD cards only use about 30% of the actual card space, the rest has nothing in it.

    I wouldnt say "Most".

Its very hit and miss which would work by cutting them in half.

    Most look like this:

Actually I wouldn't say most are like that. At least not new SD cards. I have dealt with hundreds of SD cards since carrying the EverDrives, all different brands. Transcend, PNY, Patriot, SanDisk, etc. etc. From what I have seen all of them only use first 30% to 50% of the SD card.

Honestly 2GB cards are what $5? I wouldn't blindly cut in a 32GB card, but 2GB wouldn't be huge loss. Some cards you can actually see through if you hold up to the light.

Here is 2GB card I have been using and it only uses about first 40%, the rest is just empty.

I have taken apart hundreds, not just had them pass through my hands. I was taking NAND chips out of them.

I would disagree most are how you describe, however a post with links like yours is a great idea for one that are known to be suitable.

Kamagra - Nolvadex pills - cialis 40mg pills

[b]We were at the edge of divorce when I decided to try this. Years and years without delight of orgasm and sexual satisfaction. This could ruin any life but not ours. viagra for women worked and I always keep the pill near my bed as nobody knows when my wife asks for more sex. By the way, buy kamagra works not worse than brand, so next time I can save my money

    lol :)

I just don't want to see needlessly ruined SD cards. We have enough stuff in landfills.

A post with cards that could be cut would cover it though. Maybe hold them up to a light as you said and post links to ones that are small enough.

If your still butchering SD cards for NAND chips how about I pay you for a suitable 8GB card + shipping? I would ask Stone Age Gamer, but postage from America to Australia really isn't cheap.

I didn't come across many that were small enough to cut up.

If/when I come across one - sure, but you will likely be waiting some time. I don't usually butcher much over 2-4GB and I have not needed to for a few months.

The shipping cost will likely be less than if one were to send from the UK to AU. The card would most likely be somewhat cheaper too in the US.

I pulled apart my Topram 64GB and it has a single chip that looks like an over-sized RAM module chip in it. It is mounted same way GPU chips are to the PCB. Takes up the whole inside space. Then put it back together and it still works.

Having said that, If you need a smaller sized SD card, you could try the MMC mobile cards. Same width and thickness as a full sized SD but only half the length. The caveat with this is I can't find one over 2GB but that may be enough for most people.

UPDATE: I just thought of this right after posting. Another solution for more storage is to make an extension adapter. The simplest way is to use an SD to micro SD adapter and a dead SD card or another adapter that you don't mind cutting up. To do this, first get your donor card and carefully open it up. Cut the case and internal circuitry down to the length you want. Get some thin gauge wire and cut them to the length you need. You will need 9 pieces. Solder these wires into the cut down card. I recommend an adapter card for the donor because they have jumper lines that will be easier to solder to. Then solder the other end of the wires to the SD or adapter you will use for storage. Be sure to hook them up right. You can also hook these wires to a reader slot for plug in operation. Close the adapter plug up and plug it into the slot on host device (the Everdrive 64 in this case). Find a good location for the SD card storage inside the host device and put it there. Close the case of device up checking that it all fits and your good to go. SD card needs no cutting up and it is hidden inside.

    one more update...
For a cheap SD socket, you can do this too if you have the solder skills for what I said above. Just attach the wires to it for the remote setup: http://www.instructables.com/id/Chea...dboard-socket/

I am going to cut my 16GB SD card a half and put it inside the cart. I was wondering that would there been any heating problems on the card if ther is no hole on the top of the cart? Or would it be safer to drill some small holes on the back of the cartridge?
