What's the deal with cars in japan?

Ah, I wasn't a follower of him and only saw a few videos were people sent him stuff. From that I had the impression he couldn't really speak Japanese. by the way, is he still around these days?

You would have thought so but then again there are many people who like to drive a cool car but have no interest in looking after it or how to get the most out of it.

yah well he did live in a quiet neighborhood before so they likely didn't support people working on there cars
and he sold it because he moved to a smaller place

Luke has told me similar things back in the day. He does speak excellent Japanese (at least for a 6/7-year expat) as far as I can tell, however his wife (or ex-wife... now I feel like a dick admitting that) could have easily told him that.

Japanese pride probably. Cant be buying from makers that aren't Japanese(where most aftermarket parts are from)

That being said, he did have a R32 Skyline so you would expect him to be quite versed in the auto/maintenance industry, but who knows.

Anyway...

putting an h22 into an acura cl is wasting a good engine in a heavy car. Drop a 3.2L v6, instead... that will get you somewhere.

My acura cl is 4010 pounds. A prelude is 38XX pounds. My car will be just a little slower than a prelude. I got a nice light flywheel too so hopefully that will compensate. I got the engine pretty cheap. The guy i bought it from told me i could take anything I wanted off the prelude so i took everything i could. I got the ecu, wiring harness, ignition, axels, and some other stuff.

If i put a 3.2 in I could get an extra 25 horses. Or 60 If i got one out of a type-s. But it would have costed much more and would have required more work. The h22 drops in with little modification.

There was a guy who lived near me in Windsor Ontario (Canada) with a EG Coupe with a turbo H22 and LSD tranny. He had everything built up I think even the block was aftermarket and all the internals, the head, ECU and the whole nine yards. Tuned to the teeth on the Dyno. He had the fastest Civic in the area that's for sure. Something like 350HP at the front wheels IIRC. I saw it beat a Supercharged 05 Mustang on the highway. The guy who had the Mustang worked for Roush (IIRC, might have been Saleen or whatever) in Detroit and it was one of the first, if not the first supercharged 05 Mustangs around as they where working on one of the first bolt on kits for the then new Mustang. Granted the Mustang may not have been tuned to full potential but still they where flying down the highway that Civic was FAST as HELL! I loved it cause it was a sleeper. You could see the large FMIC but otherwise the car was stealth. No lame wings or anything like that.

I was really surprised when I heard Luke sold his R32 Skyline (it wasn't a GT-R but still a nice car) but by the sounds of it things just got too expensive to keep the car and I think we can all understand that. It sounds like it is more expensive to maintain a car in Japan and I think that was all he was trying to say. With limited space and everything I bet he's better off without a car. My sister lived in Halifax and has never owned a car. Heck, everyone she knows can ride a bike or take a bus and get anywhere just as fast. I'm too lazy, I need my car but I don't think that's a good thing. I think many big people in cities can do (and do, do?) without cars.

Honestly, the car modding scene is quite big in Japan. Theres even a few magazines devoted to it.

I don't really see that he has language skills anywhere near excellent Japanese from viewing his videos. His pronunciation is off and it's easy to tell he struggles with kanji. He also bids on the most broken stuff on Yahoo, sure sometimes he does repairs but I think many times that he doesn't understand the full description.

This is, or atleast was, true in parts of China like Beijing, especially around the time of the Olympics, to reduce the pollution/smog problem.

There is no such lawe in japan or any country from what I know.

I'm not sure about his Japanese level. My Japanese is pretty bad. Tatsujin is better than I am! :P
