using everdrive through slg3000

arcade-forge sells all manner of scalers for use with retro consoles on modern displays.
I have a modded N64 that outputs RGB scart. I connected this to a sync trike to convert it to VGA; as my plasma doesnt have the correct vertical sync for the VGA coming off that; I purchased a SLG3000.. It seems to be working fairly well on my plasma; but even better on an LCD so I may concider upgrading to an LED screen next (I do however think in general picture quality is better on a plasma but thats another thing all together)
Anyway What I am getting at is games all work fine BUT and its a biggy! The everdrive menu does not come through when using the scalers. maybe its what the everdrive output refresh rate its menu system's at?
As I know the menu system, I selected a game at random and the game came up; also tried an actual N64 cart in unit too game came up.. but alas no menu through the SLG3000 anyone else had this issue?

I am also thnking of getting a VGA to HDMI scaler to see if that improves my picture. I am glad there is screen positioning of the SLG3000 it should give a descent picture on my plasma then.. and maybe save me getting new TV..? Now if only I can view that everdrive menu!

n64 rgb mod may not work properly in hi resolution (640x480). menu and some games work in 640x480, but most games used 320x240.

interesting; well fortunately it still works through scart alone (without scalers) Even though there's an rgb mod on the N64...
it just means I have to get up and change the lead over when I have selected a game.. sigh*
maybe I'll get a scart splitter and keep changing the AVsource on TV everytime game is loaded..hmm

Do you think it would be much work to add an option to display the menu in 320x240 resolution? The RGB + scalers bug has been asked a couple of times now and while it is a problem with the N64 hardware and not the EverDrive it is possible to work around it.

old menu was 320x240 by the way, but people cried a lot about ugly design. :-P
the only chance to fix this problem, is try to play with configuration of video chip , there is available few timings settings , but most probably it will not help, plus i don't have modded system for tests

I ended up ditching the idea of using the slg3000.. the main reason I wanted to use it was that after doing the N64 RGB mod; the screen on my TV wasn't quite perfectly centred. But this is something that I want to share with anyone else that has the same problem. The solution I found was going into the TV's service menu (most TV's have em) .. its a menu that consumers are not supposed to see and only technicians at the TV companies. The one on my Panasonic plasma is holding -vol button on the actual TV whilst pressing "0" 4 times.
Anyway I accessed this menu to be able to adjust the horizontal position and AMP, (mind you had to access this while N64 was off as the RGB signal seemed to confuse it) there were also choices for vertical axis too. I am frustrated that these options are not available in slandered menu's but am happy at least I fixed my problem.

So if anyone is interested I am going to sell both my SLG3000 and sync strike.
Don't get me wrong it does improve the picture (mind you not so much on a plasma TV but if you have LCD rock on); its just I cant see the everdrive 64 menu and have a plasma.
pm me if anyone is interested I will undercut arcade forges price as I have used all about an hour or so..

You're not supposed to just go n64 -> sync strike -> slg3000. The slg3000 is meant to take a 31khz 640x480 image (at least) - all the sync strike does is seperate sync. Use a scaler or line doubler before the slg3000, or get the slg scart (which doesn't look that good imo, but it is designed for unscaled 240p/480i stuff from game consoles.)

Everdrive's menu screen looks fine on my xrgb mini (though it has its own special issues with n64, but thats another story), with or without its own scanline settings.

you are missing the cga2vga in that chain. It should be:
RGB Modded Console -> Sync Strike -> cga2vga -> SLG 3000 -> TV

That will work perfect for you.

I tell you after you put the cga2vga in your post I thought; what the heck was that!? However when I googled it the picture that materialised though arcade forge is what I thought the slg3000 was to me. check this link:

I thought that WAS the SLG300 simply because of the invoice I had; along with emails from guys at arcade forge said I had the slg3000 when really I had the cga2vga? . So is the slg3000 something else? I tell you what you put in your post has only confused me ever more.

Also before I began my journey of buying all this gear I was told exactly how to set everything up with someone from arcade forge that helped me every step of the way so that I would make no mistake.
Remember, I said I had things working fine on an LCD (well I think I said that) But had issues with a plasma and having strange artefacts as well as not seeing the ever drive menu.

But like I also said a few posts back, I ditched the whole idea in the end when I found the screen positioning (the whole reason I started this escapade in the first place) was possible through a specific service menu on my Plasma TV
