    Best 480P to 720P Upscaler?

    Hey all,

Was looking to buy an upscaler for my Wii as my Capture card doesn't do 480p, so I was hoping to upscale it to 720p so I can capture it (and with a decent hardware solution, should look really nice).

Budget is £60 (approx $100) maximum. Any suggestions?

Normally people would recommend the X-RGB right about now eh?
    But that's expensive.

XRGB is no use as I need Component or HDMI output only for the capture card. I'll have a look at that link now, thanks :)

Find a way to get your capture card to capture 480p, capturing upscaled video is a bad idea.

It doesn't support it unfortunately :(

Would need to buy a seperate video capture device for 480p capture (such as the Hauppauge DVR). Bit pricey at £140.

Blackmagic Intensity Pro. Captures 480i, but I want the sharpest picture for my guide.

I tried the Blackmagic Intensity Pro but the amount of shit it gave me was a joke. Probably a dud card. I have a very nice card now that will do everything from 240i to 1080p It does them all! It's a Korean made card called SKY-HD Capture X. Over component or HDMI it will do 480i, 480p,720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Via composite or s-Video it will capture 320x240, 640x480 and 720x480 which is what I use to capture retro game consoles with excellent results.

The card will capture in one of it's two built in codecs (MPEG or AVI) or you can use your own. to be honest the inbuilt ones are perfect even in full 1080p.

Here is the official site's URL but it's in Korean - http://www.skyok.co.kr/product.php?code=661 If you Google a bit you'll find an English page along with an English firmware (Which I use because mine came with a Japanese firmware). I paid 14000 yen for mine but Amazon Japan now sell it for 11'000 yen which is 92 pounds.

Yeah, here it's a better idea to get a better capture card than to get an upscaler.

    Probably cheaper, too.

There's awesome USB ones, though, and some older PCMCIA or whatever those were called.

I've seen a pretty decent looking USB one in stores here, at least. Maybe those could do the trick?

The Upscaler for me wouldn't be for capturing perposes it would be for playing on an HD set purposes.

Eventually maybe for capturing if Camera to TV gets old for Retrocade (even though that is on purpose and a stylistic choice)

It transpires that that the BMIP card does record 480p, but only over HDMI (which the Wii obviously doesn't have). So I'd need an external device regardless it seems. Looking at one that does 480i RGB SCART to 720p HDMI (same price as a Component/SCART to HDMI convertor anyways), and apparently it does a good job when upscaling too. :)

Look up the gamebridge, its a small USB device I have used for years that is very cheap and has nice video. If you like I could produce a preview video for the various video quality options it has. It cannot capture PAL 60hz but it can capture NTSC 60hz.
