Has Tempest 2000 ever been remade in HD?

I've often asked myself this question and also looked on Google, Youtube and found nothing related. Does anyone know if a Indie group have come up with a HD remake?

I'd like to see a toned-down version of TEMPEST 3000 (for the ill-fated Nuon platform) be made available for the 360.
It had so much potential, but Jeff Minter really went overboard with the psychedelia and farm animal noises. Plus the graphics were blurry/low res (due to the hardware) which made some projectiles impossible to spot amongst all the crazy flashing colors and patterns.

That sucks, was playing it on the Saturn and really enjoyed it. I think that game today in Arcade or Playstation Store would do alright. Shame really.

Jeff Minter is a crazy furry, but I still love Tempest 2000. Space Giraffe sucked ass, though.

Which was just a remake of Tempest anyway with bad Techno music. Space Giraffe was a migraine/seizure waiting to happen.

So what has Minter done outside Tempest anyway that makes him worthy of praise anyway?

Space Giraffe sucked so many varieties of ass, it's probably not even referred to as "software" anymore.

That being said, Tempest 2000 ought to be remade or cloned in HD. Are there no similar freeware games out there?

The Temptest you can get on XBOX live is better than Tempest 2000 Plus you can use the custom soundtrack feature to put whatever techno music you want as the OST.

music visualizers. He effectively pioneered the shit. You can't blame the man for loving acid though.

He developed the built-in audio visualizer thing in the Xbox 360 console.
And now he's turned his focus to making some simple iPhone games.

Doesn't mean he's a great game developer though

Didn't the PS1 do Seizure Vision long before the 360 did?

I bought into the NUON platform way back when it first came out. You see, DVD players were still fairly new tech back then, so I reasoned that I could get my DVD player + ability to play some games as an added bonus.

Suffice to say, the NUON concept had potential (along with a great version of Iron Soldier 3) but really was old technology when it finally came out. Game visuals were slightly better than an N64, but worse than Dreamcast, so yeah. The DVD playback was quite good though, offering some neat built in gimmicks that no other players had at the time.

The Nuon could've been more successful if it's logo wasn't the ebola virus.

His work on light machines goes back even further to 1984 with "Psychedelia", and was later converted for use on the MSX and ZX Spectrum by Simon Freeman.

Basically the guy must watched alot of Pink Floyd laser light shows back in the day an applied the idea to a virtual display device.

Jeff Minter did some great games like Deflex and Grid Runner on the Vic 20, Irisis Alpha and Void Runner on the Commodore 64, Tempest 2000 on the Atari Jaguar (the only game worth having on the Jaguar), Space Giraffe on Xbox Live and Gridrunner Revolution on the PC. Here is to the best independent game developer of all time.

Space Giraffe is one game that does seem to polarise people, older players do seem to get the concept and love the game younger people seem to have gaming sense :p
