Did you...turn on the power in the first 'chimera' room? Then do the monitor?
Use all MO discs?
Press the switch by the elevator?

That's cause RetroCollect is run by a die hard retro gamer ;-)
Seriously though, the Joystiq article just proved how out of touch the mainstream blogs are with retro gaming. By no means did the anonymous source have to release what he paid for, he could have quite easily sold it on for even more money and prevent anyone from ever enjoying this obscure treat.
Once again, thanks Kiff for the fantastic release and even more thanks to your source. Just be sure to pester him for 1.5 and 3.5 next ;)
Back on topic though, am I right in thinking that you cannot use the item storage crates in these builds? (I only tried build 2 so far and ended up with an inventory full of weaponry/ammo.)

No, the storage chests work fine, at least in the first build.
I thought they said that the second cartridge only had Chris selectable? Oh nvm. Picking jill is chris anyways lol.

glad this unreleased version of resident evil on gameboy color is finally released as its quite interesting hope someday those greedy bastards that are hording RE 1.5 for the playstation release that someday as we would be willing to do the same for it as we did RE for the gameboy color. as come on man the discs RE 1.5 is on will become dust eventually and be worthless anyway so they might as well release it for a price we are willing to pay so we can all enjoy it and thus preserve it as its part of history
Ah you're right.
Inventory chests fail to work in the second build. I plan to remove the handgun and knife when I record it.
The font is also different, game seems brighter.
Zombies animation is more smooth. They take 6 shotgun blasts compared to 3 in the first build.
There is now a clip on kenneth's body.
I assume there's no way to do all this hacking into the rooms on real hardware?

SCREWATTACK? the only thing particuarly "Screwy" about that website is how one of the FOUNDING members was screwed out of it.
Don't even get me fucking STARTED on how shit that place is since Handsome Tom and Perfect Liz were fucked over, It seems there now even stealing news from Kotaku.
I would've thought Screw Attack would've been able to understand the retro-gamer preservationist perspective better here, considering that the majority of their assets, including their most popular ones, are very retro-gamer focused.
Do these folks seriously prefer that these prototypes cease to exist?
im sure the developers are happy to see that the fans can play it. thank you very much to everyone here!

None that I know of. I wouldn't mind trying that, but since my time on my computer is extremely limited at the moment, I can't try the room hacking. I have to play it on hardware or console emulators. But I don't mind playing as legit as I can.
Now if I can figure out how to pick locked doors.
I did the following:
Use Computer John, Pass Ada (Unlock B2)
Go to Conference Room, pick up Power Room Key (didn't find the slides)
Went to the power room, activated power
Use Computer Pass Mole (Unlock B3)
When I pressed the button on the elevator it said:
Do you want to push the button?
There is no power supplied. (something like that)
On other note, despite the second cart only having Chris, I think it is the most advanced one. Any solid proofs of the dates of the builds?

I initially believed it was an earlier proto as well due to the missing stuff, although someone proposed the idea that it was a build meant to specifically test some 'upgrades" with the other relevant data being dummied out. On the other end of things, it's also possible that Resident Evil GBC actually had to be downgraded in terms of graphical quality and polish as they attempted to cram in more content.
Finding the build dates would probably settle this for certain.

The final build was reviewed by IGN before the game was cancelled. If you compare the screenshots to the later build we have, you will notice some backgrounds are more complete, zombies appeared to be brown and a zombie is seen in the first save room where you meet Rebbecca.
The background for the stairs leading to the kitchen was darkened.
The Main Hall background was changed to a lighter color instead of yellow.
Brown Zombies!
Zombie in the Save Room.
Screens from (the now defunct) REHorror.net show a zombie in the main hall and Forests body missing from where it usually is.
These scans from Total Gameboy Color give an idea of which monsters were planned to be in the game.

I bet that the IGN Beta is an awesome game, way better than what we have... I think. Anyone has a Hands-on review of the game, since it was received by IGN?
