I've taken apart all my n64 pads and cleaned the sticks out, but even the ones that are severely loose do not seem to have any wear to any of the plastic parts. What part is subject to the wear that causes them to loose their tightness and become slack?
The friction inside the stick to move the potis. Plastik against plastic is no good... in the end, the stick is filled with power, creating dead areas of the stick and it's becomes increasingly loose because its size decreases accordingly to the amount of friction.
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?
.. One of the sticks had so much powder in it that it looked like someone ha tried to hide their drugs in it, lol... Somehow, that pad performs better than one that had no powdering in it.,

I've been tempted to acquire a sealed in box N64 controller in order to replicate the stick assembly in steel or tungsten carbide. Dab of ceramic grease and it should be good to go for a century.

I don't know what some people DO to their controllers to mess them up so fast...

Several of the games are won by seeing who can do the most rotations of the joystick in a set time limit. Everyone puts their palm on the top of the joystick and rotates it around vigorously because its a million times faster than doing it softly with your thumb.

I don't play the first party for that single reason!!
I usually go with very mild movements on my N64 controllers in order to keep them alive, doesn't help much though. I did take apart a nintendo iQue in order to get the whole stick set out of there and put it on the regular controller. I'm not sure if it's using a different form of plastic but I've used it for quite some time and it hasn't even worn a little bit. Suppose it's made differently. Has a better grip as well.
That would be awesome. They do sell the digital sticks, they feel and act like the gamecube thumbstick, but its just not the same. Also they are not cheap.
I wish i could simply find someone who could make the 2 black plastic cog pieces for even $1 a piece (there is not much plastic to them). They would sell like hotcakes. I have a mound of 40+ n64 controllers that would be revived with just those pieces.

We should do a fundraiser and get us a 3D printer to replace all our controller's sticks :P
If that doesn't work, we should all go buy some Hori mini controllers, heard those are awesome, unfortunately I haven't had the chance to try one out.

I heated 'em up and pushed them back together a bit.
So...play with your current ones until they're worthless. Then bust out the perfectly good one to ruin rather than use as a basis for reproduction?

I am sure you could just put some sort of oil or grease to stop the friction eating at the plastic.

I dont want to reproduce one lol, just store it.. Never see any new on eBay though. And some people's version of mint is very far from it..
