Atomiswave audio mod

I started to consolize my new Atomiswave board.
I wonder what happens if I desolder the TA8210AH audio power amp from the board along with its heatsink? I am planning to use line audio only since I won't use it in a cab.
I know how to wire line audio outputs. I just want to save some space by removing the heatsink...

Friendly advice:

Mod the absolute minimum you need for it to work consolized.

Leave the amp alone. Tap the line level audio from it's input and use an 15 ohm 10 watt resistor as load for the amp so it doesn't blow out/smoke out from leaving the output loose.

The least you "damage" the board, the easier it is to replace it on the "consolized assembly" case you need to replace it with another unit... Think about that, too.

Things like sawing out the JAMMA connector are atrocious. Please put some sort of cover or "termination" or even a plastic cap (like the red one that protected the SEGA Genesis CD connector) instead. :thumbsup:

Thanks for your advice. Yeah, you're totally right, I am looking for a way to cover the jamma pins, probably I will use a vinyl sheet (carbon fiber patterned) Sega one is too short for that.
Did you mean desolder the amp and instead solder a resistor to the input pin of the amp? I couldn't understand that part, sorry.

I mean you put a load circuit made of a resistor to simulate the presence of a speaker and was actually being against the removal of the amp ... :thumbsup:

A good point to get line level audio is the output of the volume potentiometer.

In the case of the Atomiswave the volume control is digital, right ? Maybe if you download the datasheet of the amplifier chip and study it to figure out which pins are the input you should be able to tap the audio out from it's inputs. :thumbsup:

Sorry for misunderstanding. I want to remove the audio amp so its heatsink, because I don't need it when using line audio...

By this way, it will consume less energy so it will be a "green" Atomiswave not red... :)

The difference of power consumption is so small it's not even funny comment about it ... :shrug:

And you will ruin the board if you mod it that way. Make it so it can be undone if you need it to operate again on the original specs. That's what I meant since my first post. :thumbsup:

I am not serious..., just joking.
That heatsink sucks, I may put a smaller one perhaps.
However I removed the one in my MV1C board, it's a TDA7240, and nothing has been damaged yet. I don't understand why it's harmful to desolder that amp...
