Using headlight repair compound on cds

I have a lot of demo cds I am dumping, one of them is playstation underground.

It had three long scratches on the disc, and I had
bluemagic headlight restore around the house but this
applies to any of the fine grit polishes.

I started by laying a cloth flat on a hard surface, and applying a line
of rubbing compound to the fine cloth (like the kind used
to clean cars). I worked the cd across the line for 60 seconds, back and forth
by holding it in the center and edge, rotating it every ten seconds.
It removed most of the scratch but not all. The disc would not read.

I flipped the disc over and made a circle of polish on the disc.
Using the same polish rich cloth, I worked the disc in circular motions.
Dividing the disc into four, I worked each "corner" of the disc for
15 seconds with moderate pressure. I did not have to work long
    or press very hard.

Washed it, dried it with cotton cloth and it was dumpable.

I wonder if there is a chemical to remove the purple / blue die on the PS CD-ROM's.

Those professional disc cleaners work well. I took a couple of discs that were scratched to all hell to a friend who works in a game store. 5 minutes later they looked brand new with no scratches.

I assume they do the same sort of thing and just take a layer off/polish them out

    Nice for valuable discs.

Gamestation over here will let you run your discs through their machine for like £5 for 3 discs. Obviously not worth buying one for home use at that price unless you have shit loads of discs.

Never tried the cheap home systems.
