Question about DTL-H30101, networking and retail games.

    Hi guys.
I've got DTL-H30101 and a friend send to me a retail Final Fantasy XI package (NTSC-U/C region) with original SONY HDD.
And question is - can i play this game in on-line using DTL-H30101 or, due to some security reason, it won't even connect to PlayOnline service?

    Try it ?
If it does not work, the worst that can happen is you get a DNAS error message.

If it's a genuine retail game it'll work.

The hard drive may not show up until it is either formatted or has the software reinstalled It only takes 5 minutes to check, just make sure to format the drive first otherwise that will trigger an error unless it has never been used. FFXI requires a pre-install DNAS check for every disc used, hence why the first thing you must do with the PlayOnline CD is create your network settings. If it passes then it should run just fine. That model works with the hard drive just fine. Only reason I haven't done it yet is I want to get a HDD for my debug first rather than pulling it out of my retail.

what i wonder is, do test also run "Standart" elfs from the HDD-OSD? or just like the retails only MG encrypted elfs?

Technically it's PlayOnline viewer that requires it and the reason for that is that the main BOOT ELF file for HDD DNAS protected titles are encrypted with the combination of HDD, Console and online (installation ID) keys and that encrypted ELF file is generated by the DNAS server during the DNAS authentication before the install. It's then sent to the PS2 which in turn stores it on the partition as "XXXX-YYYYYY" which is the title ID for the product and part of the partition name.

When you try to install it over an existing install the installer will detect that the existing online ID on the _net partition mismatches the newly generated and will spit an DNAS-404 error (HDD BINDING). When you format the __net partition gets wiped and the problem is solved.

For future reference, yes FFXI can be played on a DTL-H30101. I just set it up last night.

DNASLOAD does regional checking on the mechacon, which means you can play FFXI on a Chinese or HK PS2 by using the disc to boot the game. After the "Chains of Promathia" expansion they developed a method that allow you to boot the game from the disc (a shortcut) which helps with bypassing some of the regional locks on retail machines. :)

Any Debugstation mechacon will reply all the flags back to DNASLOAD, allowing you to play the game. :D

You can also create an account on Koei Gamecity then use it in PSBBN to download Nobunaga Online.

Hello, I believe you guys can help me.

I have a Japanese PS2 37000 L (the island blue color one) and a US 50000 PS2, the US one I have the official HDD and can play FFXI fine.

I wanted to play Japanese FFXI in my japanese PS2, so I got my hands on another official HDD (it's a US one) I succesfully formated it and installed PS BB Nav on it, and some japanese games I have detect it and can install to the HDD just fine.

I downloaded a copy of FFXI's Vana'diel collection and booted it via ESR (I don't have a modchip) but when it tries to install I get a DNAS error. Now I know usually the ISO file has to be patched for DNAS, but the various utilities online that I've found to do that, can't seem to be able to do it.

Does FFXI (namely Playonline) use a different kind of DNAS?, do I forcefully need an original copy of the game and a japanese official HDD? (so far my american official HDD has worked fine with the japanese PS2).

I'm asking because I don't want to order a legit copy of the game for it to not work. I've already bought FFXI 2 times (PC and PS2) I didn't want to buy it a 3rd time and that's why I downloaded the ISO, but it didn't work.

Bottom line, all I want to know is:

If I get a legit copy of japanese FFXI, will I be able to install it and play it on my japanese PS2 with a US official HDD? I have doubts if FFXI's DNAS thingy checks for the region of the HDD or something like that.

Btw, I also use an american network adapter, I want to know if it has to do anything with it at all since apparently DNAS does a hardware check.

It's impossible to play FFXI from a pirated copy.

    Issues prevent it from working:

A through disc check is executed when the PlayOnline viewer install is authenticated and the DNAS checking tool will detect that the actual disc type reported by the DVD drive hardware is DVD video (lol).

All modules on the PlayOnline viewer installer are encrypted in a way that makes patching impossible.

In the case you were to succeed installing using such a hack, you would still be unable to authenticate a second time (then already on POL viewer) to install FFXI to it's partition because you would be unable to patch the DNAS checking code in a running copy of POL viewer. Whatever is on the harddrive is heavily encrypted (even worse than what's on the disc as it's RSA encrypted).

Tough luck, get the real disc and you will have much less headaches. FYI I play on Fenrir server... lol

Edit: Forget to mention this: Nope, HDDs are NOT region locked so yours should work fine.

Thank you so much, you're awesome.

I thought as much it had to do something witht he disc, but since I'm using a JP console with a US network adapter and US HDD I thought it might not authenticate even with an original disc because of that.

I'll just buy a legit copy then.

Thanks so much for the fast reply.

Hardware wise you're ready to go. It isn't even a shocker, the Japanese PlayOnline viewer will even DETECT and USE the analog modem that is built in on your network adapter.

Ah yes, I realized that yesterday, when I saw the modem option I was like "doesn't the JP network adapter lack it like the PAL one?, why is there the option to use it on the JP game?"

    And I realized your
DNAS checking tool will detect that the actual disc type reported by the DVD drive hardware is DVD video (lol).
I completely forgot ESR discs get through as DVD video LOL.

Anyways, thank you very much for your help.

The US modem was supposed to be sold in Japan but it never happened. The option is there for the specific type of Rockwell/Conexant USB modem that PlayOnline Viewer supports.

I'm gonna abuse your knowledge a bit more :P

Other than modchip, is there any way to boot Utility disc backups? It was a pain in the ass to find something to format my HDD so my japanese console could use it.

I used richi902's disc (http://www.assemblergames.com/forums...oles-(updated)), booted the BB Nav installer and that did it for me. But I always wanted to do it from a utility disc, and I got my hands on a couple of ISOs but they don't boot.
