Thread: TD Cycles, Shenmue Beta, and others on EBay.

TD Cycles, Shenmue Beta, and others on EBay.

I just found this. Anyone interested in getting that copy of TD Cycles and trying to get it to work?

Also, the handwriting on that Shenmue beta looks familiar.

Sorry, but to me it look fake. Im sure there was other thread about this. 500 dollars not worth it.

No argument from me. I just thought it was worth bringing to everyone's attention.

The seller appears to also be selling a Jaguar Development System, not something I've seen often on eBay:

My feedback thread, since it seems somewhat difficult for people to find.

Im still surprised Test Drive isnt more widely available. There were multiple copies / builds years ago, and most seem to have disappeared.

Rayld took the betas and wrote his own GD-R's which were sold, right?

Yep, it appears that he sold at least 3 sets. There may be more, people who bought in good faith but were to embarrassed to come forward for fear of looking foolish.

Plus the other games he sold, too. People seem to focus on the Shenmue game but there were others too. Either way, no one will ever know the truth.

I wonder if Buyatari still has the two copies mentioned in this thread?

    http://www.assemblergames.com/forums...ead.php?t=8139

Did he ever get that copy back from Dreamcasthistory?

I know it's only a tech demo but it would still be interesting to see it running on real hardware.

I used to own a copy of Test Drive Cycles amongst other games and I regret not dumping it. I don't mind taking a gamble on the disc not working, for it could require a 5.24 to boot (though scratched to fuck or whatever during shipping I'll be unhappy) but if the others are raylyd fakes it will be offputting and I may retract my current high bid - though I didn't recognise the handwriting, possibly because the pictures are kinda crappy.

In any case the build of TD Cycles I had wasn't even a beta, it was barely an alpha. I could ride a motorcycle with poor physics and most of the animations missing around half a track of a town or city before it had a fit - it wasn't even possible to do a full lap. I can't remember exactly what happened but eventually I either rode through the floor and/or the Dreamcast crashed... but yeah basically it was significantly less than a demo or even a tech demo for that matter.

Anyhow I'll sleep on it and maybe I'll retract my bid in the morning, maybe not, or maybe I'd get outbid but my intention was to dump Test Drive Cycles and sell the rest to help cover the cost, but if they are repros for sure then I'm not gonna bother.

EDIT: Gave it some thought. I'm still happy to gamble but given as it is the majority of my income being spent for the next fortnight it was never going to be a good diea but I owuld have bought it regardless, but after giving it more thought yeah I'm not interested in paying out of my arse on clones, especially when TDC sucked and it could be a clone too.

for those who don't know, the seller vgamerbox360 = jaysmith2000...

... just ask him about the GD-R before bidding...

but I had some mail exchanges with him in 09/2010, and he already had Shenmue beta's then, long before the recent mass copy problems...

Dream and I made a deal with someone in the industry. I bought most of the discs and Dream bought one. Of the discs I had there were 2 different builds and a double or two. However, I do believe all of the ones I had eventually went to the same person but I am not sure anymore. The build Dream had was one of the 2 builds I had...I think. He later sold his to someone else (not the person I sold to)

Not sure if that clears anything up or makes it worse but I no longer have it or any other Dreamcast GDR that I am aware of.

Also of note I did get all the discs back from Dreamcast history and they too are sold to the person who bought the majority of my Dreamcast collection.

Actually that may make some sense. I think raylyd may have bought a set from jaysmith2000. If I had known it was jaysmith2000's auction I would have been more content to leave my bid up as I'd trust buying from him but the kinda anonymous and crappy eBay name doesn't help :P

Anyhow I'll put it on my watch list and will contemplate another go at bidding.

Thanks for the update Buyatari, appreciated :)

Legit, the thing that gets me about the auction is the fact that the seller can't get TD Cycles to run, whenever it was offered here (previously) it was always listed as working. Perhaps it would be an idea to ask the seller if it's possible to read the contents of the disc on a pc?

To be fair, though, i think the price-tag is still quite steep, I TD Cycles alone went for half that amout when copies exchanged hands here in the marketplace... Shenmue isn't a beta, it's more like Shenmue with debug mode enabled... and Alone in the Dark? If it is actually different to the final build then the price tag (for all of them) is probably quite accurate... but I'm not sure otherwise. I think the seller would have more luck selling them separately, but that's just my opinion.

Eitherway, it's nice to know there are at least three or four copies out there so the future is reasonably bright for TD Cycles... even if it is just a tech demo!

Beyond TD Cycles I can only think of 'Heroes of Might and Magic 3' and 'Take the Bullet' that still need to located... Although (iirc) I think I know who has HOMM - and they may well release it at some point in the distant future.

TD Cycles went for more than the lot combined (@ current price) because it cost me a good few hundred ;)

As for Heroes of Might and Magic III I know who has it too - I sold it to them, unless there is more than one copy or it was passed on :P

I never had Take the Bullet but kron is kinda sneaky and has a lot of cool things, I wouldn't be surprised if he had it or knew of its whereabouts.

Perhaps TD Cycles is listed as non working as the seller no longer has the means to test it - but there are some games that won't work on retail DC either with swop trick or System Disc 2 or even wrong region but will work in a 5.24 (if you're lucky!) so I'm hoping it is any of the issues mentioned if I take the plunge and bid again.

EDIT: I bidded some more. If I win it means no Vindaloo or crisps for me for a fortnight! :P
