Ah I see, we forgot that Google.com is the original Google most people in the US think of given I'm within driving distance. Because today is an American holiday it makes sense why it is a flag.
However upon visiting http://www.google.co.uk we see the animation.

The Freddy tribut is now missing from Google Japan :(. Bummer. I wanted to save that. Better check Google.co.uk to see if it's still up there.
