Ok so I took this out of my sister's broken laptop, it's the power board and whenever plugged in, one of those yellow boxes gets incredibly hot. so my question is, what are these yellow boxes and would it be easy to find a replacement.

You'll need to get the uF and voltage of them, and a soldering iron to replace them, they are SMD caps and no-where I know sells them singally, you generally need to order 50+ minimum.
Though you can replace it with a non-SMD version if you get the equilivent type, rating and voltage part.
Man I feel stupid lol
Used to seeing electrolytic and ceramic ones
Ok so it says on it
R+
226
35K
946
The meaning is probably obvious but I've only had about 3 hours of sleep the last two nights
And not having them singally is not really a problem, I like to have a few spares in case I do something stupid or one of the other ones blows, this board is like 12-13 years old
Ok so after some research
R+ = Industrial grade (Low ESR, Surge Robust)
226= 22 microfarads
35 = 35V
K=manufactured by kemet
946 - manufactured in the 46th week of 1999
Helpful website just in case anyone else needs it ever

I'm pretty sure these would be the right thing but for that price I might aswell buy a replacement board for a tenner.

I don't suppose a bog standard electrolytic cap rated 22 microfarads and at least 35 volts would work would it?

Can't you just buy a new power board? They don't usually cost much.
Yeah I could, as I said they're only a tenner, but I was vaguely hoping that I might have a capacitor around which would fit the bill so I could replace it for free or failing that spend like £2 on a bag of components lol
