Mortal Kombat Outsells Marvel VS Capcom 3 AND SSFIV COMBINED!

    http://www.joystiq.com/2011/08/13/mo...-has-paid-for/

Gee I WONDER WHY I LOVE MVC3 and SSFIV but both were full priced and had NO extras just Arcade mode local VS and Online THAT'S IT and UMVC3 should have been DLC but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO capcom once again oversaturates.

In contrast not only is Mortal Kombat a fuller game with all sorts of modes but it's DLC Friendly and in all honesty plays better than both SFIV and MVC3. I think it might be the first time in history Mortal Kombat really is better than Street Fighter in terms of playability

and having Freddy Kruger in the game as DLC is just batshit loonacy BUT it works!

IN Capcom's defense though SSFIV AE WAS requested by fans so I'll let Capcom off for that but there is no reason UMVC3 should exist

Honestly I don't think Marvel Vs Capcom was very popular after the 2nd title. Street Fighter probably started losing popularity after Super SF2. While Street Fighter 4 was impressive at first, I guess it just doesn't hook people like the new Mortal Kombat did. The new MK game I really like. I liked the first two MK games and didn't care so much for 3, 4, Ultimate, Trilogy. During that time I liked Street Fighter II and Alpha.

Anyway I am glad I never bought SF4 or MVSC3 seeing how they are already both obsolete. Capcom has had an issue with reissuing games under different editions. But that isn't always a bad thing.

SSFIV I'm ok with and AE being DLC I'm cool with SF IV still holds it own

BUT THERE IS NO REASON for the 12 extra characters not to be made into DLC for MVC3

How do we even know there won't be a Street fighter X Tekken Pro next fall?

This isn't the 90s Capcom can't go updating a game every 6 months at retail and expect people to still care.

And honestly Mortal Kombat online gets way more intense than SSFIV or MVC3 do.
To the point where after a great match and I lose I get mad if my opponent doesn't finish me off with a Fatality.

I main with Kitana online in MK

I dont get why you think having the characters as DLC is better.

They would likely charge $4-5 each. At best they would come it packs of two.

You would still nearly pay the $40 you'd pay for the new version.

    'close to 3 million units'

    SF4 - 1.6 million

    MVC3 - 2 million

    1.6 + 2 = 3.6 million ie. mortal kombat hasn't sold more than sf4 and mvc3 combined

    Some points...

Why choose a sequel of a game? I mean if they had choosen I don't know say the original SFIV then it would not be a comparison as that sold over 2.1m units in America. The total of all the SFIV games (and there are 3... and ignoring the version on the 3DS) is 3.2m

World wide sales of MK outside of America? That would be 500k, compared with 750k for SSFIV or the 1.3m for SFIV. Will Morkat Kombat get a Japanese release? Will Steve Jobs been seen playing a Nintendo 3DS?

How is 2.1m close to 3m? Do they round up in Warner Bros? Even world wide it is still 2.6m which is closer to 2 and a half million...

I really haven't played fighting games on this gen. Somehow, it seems i totally lost interest. I played Mortal Kombat at last year's BGS and while it was great, i never even thought of buying it. SFIV looks cool, but Capcom being Capcom i knew they would release DLC after DLC, revision after revision...

Do you think it's worth to get SSFIV Arcade Edition? Does it have all previous DLC on disc? Does it have those damn online pass codes?

As for "extra" characters as DLC, is just companies ripping of customers. Specially when the content is on the disc or patches, making the DLC purchase just a small unlock code.

PS: The one fighting game i'm really curious about is Street Fighter vs. Tekken, just because it has Cole from inFamous.

I know MK DLC is not on the disc. My point was that any content that was produced side by side with the game , just to be released after as DLC is ripping off the customers. When some companies put them on disc is just pathetic. I'm not saying MK is the case though.

Thanks for the info on SSFIV Arcade Edition.

I'm fairly pissed about Marvel Vs. Capcom 3. I was stupid enough to buy the Collectors Edition, for the full 70$. It's nice to know it's "Collectors" edition nature is only good for 9 months, till the new version comes out. At this point, I'm trying to trade it locally (or will go to Gamestop soon), and trade it in, because once Ultimate comes out, my copy will become worthless. Thanks Capcom.

Well, the games sell, and they sell PRETTY well so from a buisness point of view, it would be stupid not to released the stuff on disc.

My problem with the new Capcom games is the graphical approach they have gone for. When games like the Blazblue titles and Arcana Heart 3 revel in their old school 2D-ness why Capcom had to try and reinvent the wheel God alone knows.

The expanded disc releases and DLC issue are a serious cause for concern though. If the DLC sells better than the physical item then it makes it even easier for companies in future to decide at a grass roots level how any game and it's subsequent potential sequels are going to be handled. Why go to the expense of pressing discs, creating packaging etc and making only $10 on a $50 sale in a shop when you can release it in a digital only format, still sell it for $50 but make $40 clear?

One day soon one of the big hitters from Activision or EA is going to be digital only as a market tester, just hope it's not a C.O.D game or a FIFA or Tiger Woods title because if it is it'll still sell millions and it really will be the death knell for gaming as we know it.

Because nobody buys the old school 2d-ness anymore appart from hardcore games ?
