    may be better to make ultimate solution for genesis? may be not very cheap, but super damn extremely powerful!? solution without any compromise, where features is the only target. i love genesis so much and always want to do something for genesis. it is my favorite system and was a object of my childhood dreams for a long time.
    how about instant loading, 16mbyte SDRAM, ym2413 synth for sms, ramcart for cd, eeprom saves, extra mappers support for sms, firmware loading from sd, support of huge size ROMs, like 10mbyte hacks, may be even snapshot saves and emulation of systems like nes (with fpga help, of course)

    NES is another good system, but i don't ready to jump in mappers hell yet (: probably i will buy powerpack for my nes , that's all

    I'm sure some people would like the YM for SMS, but probably not a huge amount. Master System wasn't near as popular as Genesis. Ramcart for CDROM would be cool. But that's probably kind of limited use, few games require it. EEPROM saves, the two most popular games Mega Man and Monsterworld have already been hacked. So it would be nice for native EEPROM support but wouldn't break alot of new ground. Support for the big Mortal Kombat hack would be neat but what other use would there be for such a feature? Snapshot saves would be cool. =)

    But I still think PC-Engine would be good because I think it would be simple to make a very nice Flash card. As I said before, other than 2 games and the CDROM HuCards, HuCards usually only contain 8 Megabits of ROM or less. There is no special memory mapping hardware in those. Compared to SNES or Sega Genesis it should be very easy. The region issue might be something interesting to tackle.

    You may even be able to devise a BIOS/OS ROM that can run on both regions, that would be neat.

    MottZilla: PCengine is not easy project. usually hardware part of project not very difficult, probably i can make pcb and fpga design in a week or may be in two weeks. most difficult thing is a software (OS), especially if target system use slow 8bit cpu, or ugly cpu like in snes, where is no any good tools for C coding and where is horrible asm. yeah, snes cpu it is a pain (: another problem is a small ram. also need spend time to learn how to program target system.

    The PCEngine has 8-bit HuC6280A, a modified 65SC02 (a separate branch from the 65C02, of the original MOS 6502) running at 1.79 or 7.16 MHz (switchable by software).
    I have no idea what that means in perspective of coding for it... but the Master system (and GG) had a slow Z80 cpu. Was it difficult to code for them? Different cpus ofcourse but... just asking.

    Nothing is "easy", that we all understand but compared to the rest of the carts you've developed, is it that much more difficult?

    65SC02 is a good cpu. probably sms os could be easy ported to pce

    Composite only made sense back in 1986 when RF was the du jour. I think we both know what wins there in terms of quality. Here in 2011 people have wisened up a bit in the US to the fact that they've gotten the shaft when it comes to picture quality for the last 25 years. Thats about it so far...

    The NES does look pretty good on a CRT display sure, but I bet it looks even better with RGB. I wouldn't use composite on an HDTV but they're quickly becoming the norm of today. While CRTs are not hard to find by any means finding a good one that has RGB inputs or can be RGB modded is difficult and will only get more so, unless you wish to pay a pretty penny.

    As you also stated they can be repaired but I doubt anyone will want to go through the cost of repairing a display that is worth less than the cost of recapping. My parents own two Sony Trinitron displays (pretty good looking CRTs too) that have suffered all sorts of abuse. My father refuses to replace either with an HDTV despite having an available HD source for TV on the basis that neither has crapped out. One has a cracked case from falling face first onto carpeted floor and requires magnets hot glued to the case to correct visual interference caused by who knows what. Works, but its a fugly case.

    I'd hedge my bets either way but I lean towards quality CRT displays becoming as easily found as a Vectrex or Virtual Boy in the coming years. Maybe even harder to find faster due to CRT displays being (mostly) fungible with HDTVs, tack on the 360 and PS3 doing HD output and you've got incentive for the average Joe to toss his CRT.

    Start hoarding those medical CRTs! Thar be a storm a brewin.

    The PCE CPU is fast. If you need help with PCE programming ask tomaitheous at the PCE development forum here: http://pcedev.blockos.org/

    I'm sure he'd want to help you if you could develop EverDrive for PCE as it would spark alot of new interest in the PCE and PCE homebrew. He also made a reference sheet for PCE development here: http://pcedev.blockos.org/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=60

    Ape, believe me I want to start hording them. But I don't think I would have anywhere to put them. If I did and have the money I'd probably stock up on a bunch.

    After the N64, pcengine would be my second most desired. Now that we have the awesome ED64. I'd buy a pcengine/turbografx flashcard in a heartbeat! WOuld be fine with a bare pcb too! Seems like the one system that would match well with it since the cards were so thin.

    Also it would cover 3 systems essentially, the turbografx16, turbografx express portable and the turbo duo :)

    Without question, I would buy two HuED cards. One will have a permanent spot in my TG16 and the other in my PC-Engine. This would be regardless of the ability to play PCE games on a TG16 and vice-versa.

    First things first! I love the Everdrives. Every single one of them. I own a SNES and a MD cart, soon i will buy a second one for my beloved MD.

    I would really love to see an ultimate solution for the Genesis, like your suggestions a few posts earlier. It is my favorite console of all time and i have a huge collection of original carts and accessories in my loft. Doesn't matter if it gets expensive. Quality costs money. Free things always hurt!

    And more powerfull OS with "menu on board" for do not reset the Genesis to return to Menu:-)

    Would that even be possible? The system is running the ROM like its the actual cart. I am unsure how you could insert a menu over top of this.

    An option to toggle having reset return to the main menu seems fine with me. Saves a little time for us who like switching games often.
