I would personally like to see (in no particular order):

Virtual Boy - sure there is Flashboy, but I personally would like one with an SD/microSD slot and a menu for loading multiple games

Atari Jaguar - I have a Skunkboard II that I got only because I preordered (and got a year or so later after that) it. They are hard to find and only allow for loading 2 games. A Jaguar ED card with SD/microSD slot would be best. Believe it or not, demos and ports are still being made, as obscure as this system seems. Maybe a way to load CD games from SD/microSD could be implemented.

Gameboy Mono/Color - this one is obvious, as the original Gameboy/Gameboy Color is still very popular. Sure there are many flash carts, but they max out at 64mb, which is puny, especially if you factor in Gameboy Color games. Loading from SD/microSD would be best.

Neo Geo Pocket Color - The Bung flash cart is rare and very expensive, and uses slow, outdated parallel port to load games onto. Flashmasta is another solution, but it lacks a card slot. Loading via SD/microSD would be best. This is a popular handheld despite it not being as mainstream as gameboy.

PC Engine/TG-16 - I also have a NeoFlash PCE flash cart and the software for it sucks, has only 128mb memory, and has issues loading games properly. A PC Engine ED flash cart with SD/MicroSD would be nice, especially if it had save game memory. Perhaps loading CD games from SD/microSD could be implemented.

Dreamcast - Far fetched, but the SD adapter from Dreamcast has very low compatibility for retail games (it seems to be best for homebrew). Perhaps loading games via the expansion port (where the BBA adapter connects) could be made - after all, there was a planned ZIP drive for Dreamcast....

Sega Saturn - Also kinda far fetched, but perhaps making an ED cartridge that plugs into the Saturn's cart slot with SD/microSD could work.

Atari Lynx - An obscure system, but nonetheless, would be a great ED cart

You're confused. Jaguar has lots of great games that are either fun to play because they're so good, or fun to play because they're so bad.

    +1 for Neo Geo Pocket.

(The other Systems have readily available backup systems. Well except maybe Jaguar. That one would be interesting too. But I guess Jaguar would mean a small market.)

But considering how many carts Krikzz has to offer it wouldnt be so bad if he just concentrates on updates/bugfixes and logistic.
I mean...why design a new cart if demand for the existing carts already far outstrips supply

The Flashmasta (http://ngpc.freeplaytech.com/) is working. Yeah, it lacks a SD slot, but that was a design decision we made up front. Part of the goal was to support old Bung devkit hardware to give those users a USB option (instead of the parallel port one you mentioned).

The Linkmasta (the USB counterpart to the parallel port Bung Pocket Linker) also allows people to interface with other NGPC cartridges for purposes of making backups of save-games and whatever.

This Linkmasta hardware platform is also extensible. For example, we have already used it to interface with with the Savemasta ( http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?223258 ) cards. The idea there is to make some sort of internet-based high-score system for MVS/AES.

The point is that much of the project has focused on modernizing this old paradigm of having a "Linker" to hook to the computer which interfaces with the cartridge. I understand that it's not what everyone wants, but it does have advantages.

I do like the idea of SD, but that needs to be attacked from a different angle. I'm not opposed to looking into that in the future.

I know this is the Everdrive Forum. I don't mean to hijack anything. Further discussion of the stuff I'm working on doesn't belong here. BUT, to bring it back on topic, I will say that I have discussed things with Krikzz, and he pretty much told me that he has no interest in working on Neo Geo Pocket.

Well I dont want to sound rude but the drawback of your solution is not missing SD support (as you said your approch has advantages too) but the limit to 11 pieces. I mean... eleven!? Thats hardly an alternative for the hundreds of people out there who would be interested in something like that.

I don't really want to reply to this here, because it doesn't belong on this thread. However, I feel like if I don't then this misconception will just continue to grow.

THIS IS NOT LIMITED TO 11 UNITS!!!

There was an initial run of 11 "Linkmasta" units that were made. These were based off of another pre-exisiting board to reduce our up-front design work. When I learned that the guy only had 10 more left (after I already bought 1), I purchased the rest and completed them.

Then, I had to decide what to do. I could try to get him to build a bunch more specifically for me. I could redesign for a different existing board. I could design the whole thing myself as a single board solution. I chose to do it myself.

The 11 are now a limited edition. 9 other people have them, and I have 2. Functionally, they're the same as the one I've designed myself, and they're based around the same chipset. They just look different, since they are 2 boards stuck together with interconnect pins.

Please don't get the idea that this whole project is artificially limited to 11 units. I can see where the confusion stemmed, but, to me, the idea of limiting it like that seems absurd.

Yeah I'd go with Gameboy dude to its simplicity...

NES... too bad it would be the most complex with its billion mappers.

    @exdeath

Plus NES already has a quite good solution with Powerpak.

    @Flavor

Ohh.. I was under the impression after reading your site.
Well if you get the linker and flashmodule ready I would definately be interested :-)

    Far too niche

Atari Jaguar - I have a Skunkboard II that I got only because I preordered (and got a year or so later after that) it. They are hard to find and only allow for loading 2 games. Probably the most unpopular proper console ever released, not much of a market

I don't see how you would ever boot cd games from card due to the system design, I bet it would be impossible. A card only system couldn't play cd's games (even if you emulated the system card and iso handling, you'd get no cd audio), and a cd based system doesn't need a alternative solution.

A PCE flash card would be nice, and popular enough to consider doing, but CD loading is a fantasy

Far fetched to say the least. What amazes me is that people already have an incredibly easy backup solution for the Dreamcast that is also very cost effective but they still want sd card loading. :banghead: There simply is no need for it.

Sega Saturn - Also kinda far fetched, but perhaps making an ED cartridge that plugs into the Saturn's cart slot with SD/microSD could work.
Not quite as easy as dreamcast for backups, but still ridiculously easy and also much faster than card access.

I'm not sure why people think that obscure systems that were never popular or complete failures should get Everdrives when there isn't a market for them. I also don't understand why people wanting SD based backup solutions for cd based systems that are already easy to run anything you like on. I doubt Krikzz or anyone else is going to spend that much time and effort on developing something that either has no market, or offers minimal improvements.

Sure you understand why anyone want SD for CD-based systems, so you can have many games installed on your system without swapping CD's.

It has a market, at least I want one and I know many more who would get one (and I would pay more than just 99 dollar for CD-emu for the PSX, DC or Saturn).

It would be nice, I've personally shunned all forms of slow mechanical media and use only high speed flash for everything now except for Blu Ray and game console discs. Point being though is the CD you can burn for 50 cents. Without an Everdrive you could never play English Tales of Phantasia on a real SNES. Flash carts are 1000000x more valuable for cart based systems that don't use easily accessible commercial media. For CD systems you are better off using a external hard drive and a mod chip that supports mounting isos. Its just not feasible to make a flash cart for a system that doesn't have an externally accessible bus/cart port and its built around an optical drive.

Such a device would never be cost effective and certainly not compared to the extremely low price of cd media. Swapping cd's is not exactly a problematic or slow thing to do, are people really that lazy they can't change a cd?

Actually, people are asking someone to spend an incredible amount of time and effort to save them 5 seconds here and there, so I've answered my own question.

Well a soloution for dreamcast would be better though then cd's as cd's are very well know to wear out gd drives. And honestly I don't know any places selling brand new gd drives these days. I think with cd systems people want something similar to how wode works on wii (ie it emuates a cd while being directly connected to the dvd/cd drive).

Correction: Using GD Drives wears out GD drives. To avoid wearing out your optical game systems you should cease using them immediately.
