Am I right in thinking this is just ground and far left pin on the laser pin connector, can't find anything about this anywhere else, thanks.

All things Playsation pre 2001
We're not just a PlayStation forum - mentioning the system in your title or even in your post might be an idea! ;-)
Anyway:

Thanks for the reply, be doing this tonight, just got back into PSX after putting mine away the year xbox came out, back to the old school, lots of fun!
Thanks again.

Nice mod. However, that is not a data transfer / access LED. The pin you wired it to was the sled motors voltage. So when ever the PS sends a voltage to the motor to move the laser deck assembly, it will light up.

That is correct but it's close enough for me and still looks cool =]

I will look into the other pins on the actual laser assembly and see what I can come up with.

I'm well into mods like this, and I'm certain that work done here will pave the way to an actual access LED schematic. Nice one, good looking mod indeed. I'd be soldering in or altering the power LED if this was an actual access mod, but it's not quite enough for me personally to have it light up for laser slider activity.
But yeah, nice one. Like I said, it's this type of thing which paves the way for access mods.
Well you should be showing data access. Not motor access.but it's not quite enough for me personally to have it light up for laser slider activity
Again, I'll see what I can come up with.

Very nice mod. I may consider this for my 5501 someday
Off topic:
How do you get a Playstation to make stronger loading noises like that? I have a BAM laser unit that sounds like it is dieing every time it loads a game. Yet another BAM unit in an actual PSone works fine.
Eeek, looks like I'm getting slated here for the humble mod, lets keep looking for that data pinout, I want an actual data access led now! Good looking out, thanks.

Depends on the gear quality. Remember, their all plastic so if some are worn more then the others, it may become louder. How do you get a Playstation to make stronger loading noises like that? An SCPH-102 (PSone) has a KSM-440BAM 25510 KL490 laser assembly.
