There was no publicly sold black HD-DVD drive to match the Elite. If real, he has a serious rarity ranking alongside this site's biggest marvels. And that's saying something with the kinds of items our users have.

I wouldn't doubt protos or mock ups must exist. A change like that is so minimal R&D cost to try.

It's obvious that I have checked. There is none right now. And I dont really believe the prices on yahoo. I think they are overpriced because a lot of people like us from around the world buy there. So I'm interested what is the real price in Japan - in standard video games shops.

You're right, and given that I wonder why they didn't just release it to begin with? As IIRC they started manufacturing the drive before they released the Elite?

There are not too many Maziora's in Japanese shops, after all it's a very limited console and already (more than?) 10 years old.

But I think given the current exchange rate, $2800 isn't that much of an unrealistic price. And the condition is really good, even comes with the outer Maziora-box. $2800 translates to 218'000yen and I doubt that shops would sell one in similar condition for notably less.
