Interesting, I've never seen an NES dev kit before.

That's probably a ROM emulator, homemade by some developer company.

There was some discussion on this in the Ebay thread, I think.
I've got one from Rocket Science Productions, used to develop Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and The Mutant Virus (and probably others).

If a developer wanted an NES devkit, they pretty much had to design their own. It's basically just a fancy RAM cart with some debugging features... I suspect the one on eBay is similar in function, and probably needs some kind of software to work/load as well...

Argh... imagine troubleshooting that :|
If you want one now you can get a CopyNES USB and PowerPAK Lite or perhaps convert another cartridge to a RAM cart. Much better and cheaper from what I've heard.
Seems more like a collectors piece than anything else.
Sold for a shockingly low amount
Maybe cause it looks more like a hacker's wet dream of homebrewn rocket tech or E.T.'s call back home aperture than a dev kit. I can hardly imagine how this was ever used in a productive enviroment.
$565 is alot for a fancy paper weight. It's solely a collectors piece and maybe this just shows no collectors wanted to spend that kind of cash on this or have less cash now to do so. I would have paid $20 for it but that's about it. For something you can't actually use and have no idea that it even functions properly even if you did figure it out, I wouldn't go spending much money. Though I understand some people enjoy buying things that only take up space.
Nintendo items are gold, give it a few years and that will sell for $30,000
Oh, I didn't think of it as a sort of investment. If you are right then I agree, it sold very low. I still feel the same way about the item when you only think about what its function is but i can see it as just some strange object with crazy value to collectors.
I do think this development kit went for a really low price, particularly seeing this kit went for more money on the same day.
