There is a genuine set and backup set as quoted above :P Also Hellgate and Sonic Adv E3 has been confirmed as home burn, but the disc's haven't been tagged/defaced as of yet. If he writes raylyd replica onj them in giant letters that would prevent them being resold as original in the future.

I don't beleve raylyd is intentionally trying to scam, I just think he is one of the minority of people who think a GD-R is just a GD-R regardless :(

It's cleared up, but even announcing there are duplicates doesn't help, as the new owner may not announce they are duplicates in future and by the time they have changed hands several times people could believe they are genuine.

They need to have a clear warning/marking written on them in giant letters to make them distinct so everyone will know not to pay for them in future, or bin them.

EDT: raylyd if you make them look like the pics I have edited, this is what I'm saying needs to be done so they are not resold in future. The original Shenmue GD-R and SYSTEM-DISC 2 you can leave unmolested. There is still talk of permabanning you, but if you do this and prove it, it will be a step in the right direction. I hope you can understand how the ones you burned yourself are unacceptable as-is.

Apprently raylyd already shipped the discs today which complicates matters, more so seeing as I stated many times the other day they will need altering.

I guess if the buyer refuses to play ball they both get banned and the thread gets stickied as an example of what _NOT_ to do ;)

Well he isn't out the door yet, if the buyer plays ball raylyd will may get off with a stern warning (which is debateable) but if the buyer doesn't play ball they're both gone so...

It is in raylyd's best interest to make sure the buyer co-operates, after all the buyer was really paying for the SYSTEM-DISC 2 and the Shenmue original betas.

Hellgate is in the file downloads section probably, Sonic Adventure is shit anyway and with the Shenmue originals they have no need for a backup so there is no reason for the buyer to jeopardise their own and raylyd's accounts.

It'll be a shame if it comes to that, but rules are there for a reason and this is a perfect example of why we need them. It'd be unfortunate if he was banned, he's otherwise a good member and I've had no problems in my dealings with him in the past, but scamming buyers on ebay to the tune of £1k is already ban-worthy IMO.

Not selling items that are clearly contrary to the rules of the trade forums would be a good start, and not sending them once the alarm has been raised would have been the correct thing to do.

You know, when the DonnyK/Geist auction was ongoing I theorised that for relatively little outlay you could make fuckloads of cash in a very short time by doing precisely what's been done here and the general consensus was that no-one would be that underhand and that trust has to play a part in any and all sales of this kind. Seems the naysayers were wrong.

A grand on ebay alone, eh? If these are the public sales, how many more have gone on in private? I don't mean to come across as some kind of cunt here and add more fuel to the fire but you've got to admit it makes you wonder. How legitimate are any discs out there, really?

I know I haven't been here long but I can vouch that Ray is an honourable guy. My dealings with him have been nothing but fantastic.

I'm sure he's trying to get the buyer to deface the discs as I've just spoken via PM and he's distraught.

Surely a second chance is deserved for a one time mistake here? I appreciate what's gone down, but I never thought someone like Ray would end up with his head on the block so quickly.

Well there are people where their credentials mean it is much more likely they they are going to have original discs, such as people involved with Quality Assurance or Reviewing. Sadly they get paid to test or write about them, get the discs for free then have the cheek to sell them on, but we don't complain about that part usually as we benefit too from owning them :P

The only thing you can really do is check and trust your sources or thoroughly check the discs for telltale signs.

BTW if I was going to scam someone, I'd just write <insert game name> onto some clear plastic, lay it over the GD-R blank, photograph it, then rinse and repeat with different titles on demand.

As for the scam part I would either send a blank and claim they don't know how to work it, a lookalike lightscribe CD-R (perhaps to be less of a cunt put selfboot on it) or nothing at all ;) The main thing though is that I wouldn't scam so :P

Lets hope the buyer (whoever they may be) become aware they hold theirs and raylyds banhammer in their hands.

FYI Xaeuron, rules are rules. If it was another random person they would have probably been banned days ago.
