Use google search: dreamcast wheel to naomi.

There is even one guy who has done Flightstick to Naomi to play Airline pilots :P

I have wanted to play Mario Kart GP / GP 2 for years, but have never seen them in any places that have arcade machines (not that they are many places around here i know of anyway). Then strangely enough two weeks ago I was at a bowling alley and noticed they had Mario Kart GP 2!! So of course I had to have a go on it (too bad i dont live anywhere near this place!)

If it is possible to play either of these games at home I would be interested to know what is required to do so.
I had one in my front room i built till about 2 months ago :) , its not a bad game, but u need the card dreader or u always lose your progress on your cups you win

hey man , firstly nice work on the ps3 :)

secondly, if you can find somebody breaking a cab, you can use a wheel from Touring Cars (Sega Model2) or similar, thats what i did, and 270 degree wheel is cool. dont use an Initial D wheel though its 370 degree and makes it too difficult to steer.

If anybody manages to hack a wheel for the FFB for mario or RR5 i would be intrested and the drive board has to be a namco one for those games, and there worth a fooking fortune, no other board works with them!. Same for the Ninja Assault shooting game, has to be a namco gunboard!!

go to the end of the pdf for the wire diagram.
I think first thing to do would be plug a jvs io in and see if the game can even boot with out the STR-PCB (i heard it can but not sure). If it can then you just have to wire the +5, STR-V Out & Gnd to an analog pot found in a race wheel.

It's easier then it sounds (arcades are not very complicated), I'm not great with wiring for electronics and I was able to get stuff working. Here is some old pictures of me rigging up for ridge racer 5.

Would old Microsoft Force Feedback be ok, I got one handy? :P

    Edit:
Seems to be, 270 degrees and +5v. :)

Mario will boot without the Drive board , however you will have to go into the options and disable it, and also disable the camera if i remember correct. RR5 will not boot without a board if i remember correct

Yes, I got the game to boot fine with just the I/O board attached, the problem is that because I don't own a compatible steering wheel, I have obviously no controls xD

Like i said look for somebody breaking a model 2 or 3 driver game, the wheel will work fine.

i would offered you one as a trade for fixing my bricked 80GB ps3 on 3.60 , but i am all out of wheels now :banghead:

but any model 2 driver game should be fine, also the i/o button layout is different for mario, so u will need to wire a new button for the special item shot, as not all wiring on naomis have it already wired in. But if u get a mario manual you can see which button is required.

jammanutz: I definitely used triforcetools recently to boot F-Zero AX and MK GP1. I haven't tried GP2 yet.

mathieulh: I first modded an old analog joystick to interface with the JVS IO board. That worked fine. But what I finally did was to code up something that translates an Xbox 360 controller to JVS.

I didn't figure out yet how the force feedback works though (on the triforce side). I was under the impression that it's the serial port but I couldn't see any signal there.

You got cart games running over a netboot? I read on some guy's site that you need hacks to get carts running over netboot, because it addresses very differently and if you just netbooted them directly they wouldn't work.
In fact I'm pretty sure I tried it and they didn't work haha.

Cart games run just fine, most of them have been released in the usual places.

I can say for certain that most Namco System 246 racing game will work with out a specific drive board (Ridge Racer 5, Wangan or Battle Gear 3). Supposedly Wangan R will boot with a RR5 STR-PCB but I don't own it to confirm my self, I do own the three others.

Any chance you could post some info on your work? I'd love to build a few devices to simplify the whole jvs setup.

Check the docs I posted to find the serial line. I have the STR-PCB for Ridge Racer 5 and it's a little complicated. Since the PCB needs the wheel analog to go through it before going to the wheel pot.

GP2 will hang on a triforce 1 at the i/o boot screen, or might even go black, cant remember, but it def doesnt work, needs a TF type 3. MArio gp 1 prob will work on it type 1, i had no luck with FZ i guessed it was looking for the 8 way controller

You say that yet someone else in another thread hear agrees with me in that they need patching, so how are you going about running unpatched cartridge roms via netboot?

Did anyone get the analog controls for Mario Kart working? I'd be interested to know the pinouts on a Sega JVS I/O since the manuals do not go into any detail at all.

I just bought 2x Crazy Taxi naomi cabinets. Will put Triforce in it when I get them home next week and see how Mario Kart works :-)

Mario Kart Arcade GP works on my Crazy Taxi cab!

We just had to solder one wire for the item button to the gear shift.

I will post tutorial and pics later when I got proper internet in the new apartment.
