Windows Update Error?

Hello everyone, I recently tried to perform a windows update, I think it was windows 7 service pack 1.

The update downloaded normally and then it began installing. It requested that I restart my computer, so I did. It went through the restart while updating. Then it arrived at this page where it said it was updating with service pack 1. After awhile it seem to be going well, but then it gives me this error: Fatal Error C000009A Applying Update.

That's all it said, afterwards my computer did nothing so I restarted it and my computer couldn't start-up and I had to do a system restore. So my computer is working but it still wants me to perform that update again. Can please give me some advice on how to get this update to work? Please let me know.

I was able to fix the problem, not really sure how though. Thanks for responding, everyone.

I had Windows Update errors on two of my machines. "Unknown" errors to be specific. I ended up having to do a repair install where you drop in the appropriate version of Windows you have for Windows 7 and run it like you would do an upgrade. Fixed both machines up and both updated just fine.

No clue what caused the problem though. Fixed every tiny problem I could find with the registry and file integrity.

Hey APE, I am curious did you use your original windows 7 setup disk or one with a service pack 1?

I am a little confused, when you say upgrade or repair install, is that in the install setup menu when you start that disk or what?

I am just curious because if I can fix this I that would be great. Please let me and I will try to look for what you suggested.

It seems to be an issue with (redundant) language packs - you need to restore back to get it going, remove the language packs, then reinstall SP1.

If you still have a problem installing SP1, try again, but use the standalone update appropriate for your OS version:

You have to use the same version your machine is installed with, in this case you want a non-SP1 install DVD.

It's a "repair" install but you'll find the option in the setup to be labeled as "upgrade".
