    Another Gamebox like device

Anybody got any experience with this one? Looks promising (SD cart slot, HDMI, USB, PS style joystick ports).

JXD blows. They never support their products. They just rush to market whatever they can pump out and then move on to the next version. I mean, the console idea is awesome but I wish someone would actually execute it decently for a change.

The only, and oddly interesting part is this. They use PSX/PS2 joystick ports...

We're looking for something similar to this to replace our son's dvd player (2yr old has ruined 2 spongebob box sets already) and now laser is dead from reading damaged discs all day. Was thinking of getting his disc's resurfaced and dump/merge the vob's and put them on to a device similar to the one shown.

Anybody got a link to somewhere that does video reviews of similar devices?

We want something that takes 5 or less button presses for him to get the movie going. And it will be better if it's a diskless system otherwise random discs will end up inserted and scratched.

I do have to say I love the looks and form factor of the one posted.

Coincidentally, one of the game covers in the box is that submarine game that Yakumo just reviewed.

Does this thing REALLY play PS games?

I don't see why not. PS1 emulation is not complicated if you have a decent enough cpu and i'm guessing JXD and the likes are starting to move into stronger cpus.

So it says in the listing:
    Support high-performance 3D games & PS games
. There's a fair few big name games listed on the back of that box and the intriguing thing for me is it says it offers HDMI support. If anyone knows of a review or real time video of this in action I'd love to see it.

hehe, yes, I noticed that as well. Basically this is a PlayStation emulator that plays media files. The problem with systems like this are the actual emulators and codec support built in to them. We all know that Chinese manufactures like to do a half arsed job 99% of the time. So I'd wait for a reliable review before buying one of these.

I'm still curious about this thing. Instead of emulating a bunch of systems it seems to focus on PlayStation games only (and DS?), hopefully that means the emulation quality is a bit better then seen on other devices.
And the HDMI port, I hope it functions also when playing games (wouldn't be surprised if the PS emulation is limited to composite, some of those Chinese game systems have the weirdest "features"). If I wasn't low on money because I just moved/renovated, I would certainly buy the thing just to check it out.

That's pretty weird logic. It'll be exactly the same as any other Chinese clone device - cobbled together, barely working, loads of bugs and glitches.

I doubt it can emulate DS, any more than a famiclone could play the N64 games that are on its box.

Same company makes some pspgo clones, I think some of their products "look" very nice... would love someone who owns any of these devices to chime in on the actual performance, one of the things that worries me is cheap, shitty buttons.. which can totally ruin any would be cool device.

There's a picture of a DS game on the back...

I wonder how well it plays PS1 games, I've been wanting a way to play them from SD or USB on a TV for a long time.

If it does and it's cheap, it seems cool

Surely we all know what this is going to be like. Big list of features, none of which work as promised.

This unit does play PSX games. It accepts them in ISO/BIN/CUE format from what I'm told. But the emulation speed is crummy and compatibility is dodgy.

Knowing how those NES and SNES emulators "work", I expect nothing from this PSX one. But if it did work, it would be so cool to have one - to have a whole library of PSX games at one's disposition without risking damage to lasers and old disks.

    Highly unlikely

if JXD actually took the time to think their stuff through they could build a really good little system but they are too much to just rush out the next crap to compete with everybody else doing the same.
