Totally blocked once the USB extension is installed. Im pretty sure you can run the vip.ex without the usb part attached though so it should be possible.
Only someone who has a Q or a GC with vip.ex and a BBA could tell you for certain.
Anyone ?

It's totally blocked, it's one device or the other, unless you plan on wiring it internally and really bastardizing that Q with a 10-way DIP switch to switch between the two :P
The Viper GC Extreme runs fine without the USB adapter you only need it for flashing the Extreme - but everything can be done via DVD too (flashing/adding plugins/etc).
Are these better than the Qoob? I was looking at getting one for my switched Spicy Cube.
I'm asking in regards to development and stuff I guess.. How would the chip react with the region switch (US/JP) does anyone know?
Shouldn't have a problem with a region switch. The vips are compatible with jap,us or uk model GC's

I'm still sort of interested for my Q but one or two more questions (especially as the chip will cost me more than my Q did :P)

I found a pic of what it looks like underneath.
Is the USB elment detachable?
If it is does the Viper work fine without it?
Ifthe USB bit is detatched does the cable get in the way of the BBA so it doesn't fit?
If the USB is reattached does it need further configuration?
Failing that, do you have a secret stash of Viper cases? :P

Yep
According to emu_kidids earlier post, yes. I cant see any reason why it wouldn't.
Its quite thin, i can fit the original cover over the usb pcb so the bba should fit if you tuck the flat cable in carefully.
Nope
Unfortunately no :(

I've just discovered my Q has been R6 modded so after all that I won't be needing a Viper just yet BUT if I pick up a PAL 'cube I know who to speak to :D

Yep, cos your using the wrong driver. I already had plenty of alternative FTDI drivers on my machine so i was able to flash straight out of the box.
Luckily, a fellow user (tjk925) on GC-Forever has packaged up a working driver if you need it.

Can the Viper chip force GameCube games into 480p? My Qoob Pro can do this (only on a few though), and I'm wondering if the Viper would be better? Looking at the various menu readme's of the Viper Bios's it doesn't look like it can do this?
