Received my Turbo ED this morning and it's working perfectly on a region and RGB modded DUO-RX.

    Cheers KRIKzz!

Same here, and it works fine on my region modded DUO/R. Also, the board is very sturdy and I see no reason why using the end to insert or remove the ED would ever cause damage. Great work Krikzz!

Now somebody suggest to me some ludicrously overpriced HuCard for me to play. ;)

Also, I just loaded a System Card 2.10 ROM and booted a CD just fine. So aside from Arcade Card games, or CD-ROM games that you want to load your own saves to the Ten No Koe bank, there is no reason to remove the Turbo Everdrive.

    -edit-

Scratch that, the games load as though they don't have the correct system card but won't actually play. Rondo of Blood loads the goofy wrong system card level.

    -edit-edit

For posterity, it has been confirmed that all Jpn System cards prior to the Arcade Card work on Japanese DUO's because the RAM is built into the system.

I just noticed the Retrogate store displays the status now as 'Out of Stock' but when I ordered on July 12th, it stated 'Back order'.

Is there any indication of order progress other than waiting for a 'shipped' email? I am purely curious.... Okay, I am excited like a child on Xmas eve really ;)

Not really. Eventually you'll get an email notifying that it was shipped and a tracking number.

sheath, there are 3 different CD-ROM classes for PC-Engine. Just regular CD-ROM which means System Card 1.0 to 2.X. Then there are Super CD-ROM games, which Dracula X is one. Finally there are the Arcade CD-ROM games.

I don't believe the regular CD-ROM system cards (2.X and below) contain anything other than a BIOS ROM, so you might be able to use those images on the Turbo EverDrive. The Games Express system card may work too. However the Super System Card 3.0 and Arcade Card games will not work until you remove the Turbo ED and put the proper System Card in (or in the case of a DUO and SCD games, just remove the Turbo ED).

haynor, people have reported the Turbo EverDrive works fine in PC-Engine DUO-R systems including with Region and RGB mods, so it should work on all TG16 and PCE systems. As for out of stock, just keep checking the site and eventually you'll be able to order again. KRIKzz usually doesn't comment on when carts might be in stock again so just keep checking.

Now I know that all this wasn´t a dream because the postman just handed over a Turbo everdrive to me!

The card looks great, very tidy built and very sturdy. I bet a Hummer can drive over it without breaking it, although I won´t try.

Krikzz, thanks for this one, it will be the one that I will use the most.

Happy to hear that it works in region/RGB modded Duo-R as this is what I have. My order shipped this morning (order: 2604).

Ofcourse they don't work, I would be shocked if they did.
System Cards (2.0 2.1 3.0) aren't just like a standard Hucard. Besides a ROM, there's also RAM inside them. What you did was just to load the rom of a system card but since the ram wasn't there, the games wouldn't work.

Again, the reason it didn't work is because Rondo of Blood is a Super CD-ROM. It had nothing to do with the EverDrive. The System Card ROMs versions below 3.0 may actually work on the EverDrive because the CD-ROM itself contains RAM, and the System Cards because the Super System Card 3.0 did not contain RAM I believe. I'm not 100% certain on that. You could test by running a STANDARD CD-ROM game with the EverDrive loading the 2.0 System Card. Again you need a standard CD-ROM game not Super CD-ROM game. For example Ys I&II is a regular CD-ROM game.

Super System Card 3.0 and the Arcade Card obviously won't work on the EverDrive as you are correct they contain RAM in the card itself. But it could be useful to load up System Card 1.0 for Altered Beast which only works with that version, as well as the Games Express System Card as those games only work with that one and not the official System Cards.

I would try but my Turbo EverDrive won't be here for another few days probably.

Would someone mind confirming, from what I understand, if I purchase a Duo, it'll have the capability to play Super CD games by itself, but requires the sustem card for Arcade System games? And is there a list of which games were Super/Arcade CD?

Correct. There's also obviously no arcade system card for english consoles. (that requires a mod or adapter) Pointless since US games weren't programmed to use it.

Thanks for the heads up, was planning on getting a PC Engine anyway. Found a Duo-R for a relatively reasonable price, gonna hopefully be buying it plus the Everdrive in the coming months =)

The DUO-R will play all PC-Engine games except for the Super Grafx HuCards, there are something like 6 of them, and it won't play the Arcade CD-ROM games without an Arcade Card DUO or Arcade Card PRO. There are only around 13 or so Arcade CD-ROM games. Sapphire is notable as it is a good shooter with amazing graphics for the system thanks to the huge amount of memory for the Arcade CD-ROM format. Strider Hiryu is an arcade game port, some people like it, others loathe it saying it is a bad port. Fatal Fury 2 and Fatal Fury Special are said to be very good ports. Art of Fighting I think is another one.

The Super Grafx games I think that are most notable are Ghouls 'n Ghosts and 1941 Counter Attack. There is another one too I can't name that seemed decent. So with all that said, if you buy a DUO-R, more than 90% of the entire library is available to you. Neither the Super Grafx or Arcade CD-ROM games are terribly important. The Arcade CD-ROM games can be played easily by getting an Arcade DUO System Card for around $25 to $40 USD. The Super Grafx however is a whole new system and isn't cheap. But the only way to have it all really is to get a Super Grafx and the Super CD-ROM add-on (or maybe the original CD-ROM drive and super rare adapter) along with an Arcade Card. ;)

The DUO is the right choice. If you plan to actually collect real games, you might be interested in a Region Mod. If you don't like Composite Video you might look into S-Video, Component Video, or RGB Video modifications.

Haha, thanks for the in-depth reply, very informative. I knew about it not supporting the SuperGrafx games, although I'm sure I remember reading that two of them were supported by a standard TurboGrafx. Either way, the SuperGrafx isn't a big priority for me right now given its limited library, but may get one at some point in the future. Enough Arcade CD games though that I think the purchase of an Arcade Card is certainly justified!

But, all together, the price for the system, the Everdrive and the Arcade Card, I don't think I'll have much money left for collecting of real cards, hah. Again though, maybe down the line I'll take an interest, find someone to take care of the region mod then. Composite isn't too much of a big deal for me, I feel like that slight fuzziness has more charm to it. Or maybe I'm just too stuck behind my nostalgia goggles :P

Hey, MottZilla. Since the TurboED has it's own forum, I'm gonna take yours and others collective knowledge and just make a separate Thread so it doesn't seem like you're (since you're the only one answering questions, ATM) answering the same questions 5 times.

    Cut and paste powers, GO!

EDIT: On second thought, I'll wait until I get mine in the mail, then go at it.
