do .sms need to be converted to .bin?

First of all, Krikzz is the man, and I'm sorry if I'm coming across like a total noob.

Second of all, my everdrive MD is currently being shipped. All of my Master System roms are in .sms. I saw to the .smd-to-.bin tool, but...

    1. do I have to change the file extensions for it to work?
    OR
    2. will the everdrive be able to read .sms without a problem?
    OR
    3. do I need to find a different conversion tool (sms2bin) or just new roms?

    Thanks

Thankfully, no. Master System games work fine in either format. I have only had trouble converting region locked Genesis games to my region.

Also, I couldn't figure out why when I added the fan translated Phantasy Star ROM to my 'P' folder it didn't show up. I haven't bothered to count how many files were in that folder yet.

When I copied it to the master directory I could see it and play it fine (there were even saves already loaded I guess for testing). Organizing files by individual folders, and not going too many folders deep, seems to matter a lot.
