    What tools are needed???

Last night I sat down and "scim read" through all 20 pages of this forum, and I couldn't seem to find an answer, so I apologise if this topic has been covered a "million" times before! (Please feel free to point me to a working link if it has)

About 4 months ago I found a PS2 TOOL on Ebay, and the seller gratiously let me lay-by it from him! (Off topic:- The US Postal Service has misplaced it in transit, but that's another story)

During this time I have been having a think and I have made it my goal this year to teach myself basic programming (starting with Java, and going from there), and hopefully design a game or two!

I have downloaded a whole bunch of PDF Files (about 40 odd, 5-6000 pages) relating to the PS2 TOOL and the SDK software, and I had a quick read at the time and saw it once, but for the life of me now I can't find it!

So my questions are these:- What brand/s of CD/DVD Burners (Model Numbers) are needed to burn Alpha/Beta PS2 Discs? Do these said burners need special firmware or software like the RVT-R Burner does?

Apart from the "Sony Master Discs", what other brands are compatible? (Brands, Numbers, +r, -r, -rw)

What software do I need to have installed on my Development Computer?

    Thanks all for your time!

    PS2Guy!

    Hope you're comfortable with linux.

From what others here have said over the years, getting a Tool up and running is a complicated affair.

If I'm going to be perfectly honest, I don't know the first thing about Linux, or programming for that matter, but I think I'm clued on enough to learn!

When it finally gets here (Hopefully USPS doesn't break it), there is a wealth of information stored in this forum, so I don't think it's going to be that hard! Should it??

If you've never used linux before at all, then yes, this is going to be hard. Or at least, a lot of new concepts and a lot of reading. If you've never done any programming at all either, it might be best to start somewhere a lot less complicated and a lot better documented, if you want to actually create something (you mentioned java, that sounds like a good plan).

I don't just jump into things blind (aside from buying my TOOL), I do ALOT of EXTENSIVE research before starting anything that I do!

I bought "Sams Teach Yourself Unix System Administration in 24 hours" for a start, and I'm looking at some others at the moment, Java Programming, Linux Programming and Visual Basic, plus I have as many PDF files as I could find on the PS2 and the TOOL, for a start!
