I try to use something like imgburn it halts half way.
I suspect there's some kind of protection as it does this on both discs.
Ideas? Setting to skip read errors won't work I get cannot seek errors.

Have you tried Alcohol 120% or UltraISO?

Try CloneCD, it can copy -almost- everything.
Another recommendation for IsoBuster from me. The best tool to mess with the internals of disc images, by far, so I guess it'll help with dumping, too.
If it turns out not to be a copy protection scheme, there's also a tool that, if you come across parts of a disc that your drive can't read, lets you try to read them on whatever other drives you might have, until most or all of the blanks are filled in - I can't remember its name right now, but I'll keep looking.
Btw, what kind of media are we talking about, anyway? Some kind of CD, XBOX, 360, ...?
Yeah, I think it would be handy to know which format we're talking about. CDRWIN is ideal for Saturn.
Good money paid for all Sega Saturn Demo's/Promos/Proto's and beta's. PM me!

Something just crossed my mind: I'm guessing we're talking DVD, right? More specifically, a double-layer DVD? Because "halts half way" made me think of the layer break which usually occurs somewhere halfway through, maybe that's what's causing the issue? No clue what exactly might be going wrong there or how to get around it, though...

It's a ps2 game. I tried nero and it just sits there, even with error correction turned off.
Is it a CD or a DVD?
As rso said, try with Isobuster.
If you get too many errors, you should try with another CD/DVD drive, I suggest a LG-GDR8164B...
try BlindWriter, works fine. i made a couple of isos with it.

If it's a DVD disc, use DVD Decrypter. Worst case scenario you'll have to install AnyDVD too, to knock out later dvd protections. This should be enough for proper backups of single layer discs, dual layer may not always work (I recall some uproar from the early 00's when dual layer discs were impossible to rip AND get burn in a working way by less respected scene groups, the fault being either in insufficent modchips, lamers whose ripping knowledge consisted of dvd decrypter and nothing else, the inability of early ps2 models to read dual layer dvds right, or the combination of all the above, I dunno.).
If it's a CD, maybe CloneCD is a good app to use. Infact, try CloneCD/CloneDVD or whatever it is called today, in case DVD Decrypter fails.
I've a feeling though, that the problem isn't related to protection, but either to the drives inability to read the disc due to either being in poor condition.

... LOOOL!!! and, your stuff is "Collection" ??? WTF... are you serious? XD
CloneCD clone absolutely everything even disc that are difficult to be read for Isobuster, wich i agree is a good software 99% of the time.
Maybe your DVD drive has an problem reading the discs? I also use imgburn,
and it do a great job for me.
An old version of CloneCD is an good alternative.
I think you also test another alpha/beta with the drive/software before?
You try using another drive?

Maybe the disc is damaged. Apache is another program used to rip ps2 discs. You could also try to extract each file from the disc then rebuild it.
I've had a similar problem recently and it got solved today. Same issue, actually - a preview copy of a PS2 game that would get 16% done ripping (regardless of application, I really don't think that's the issue here) and then hit bad sector after bad sector. Both my internal DVD drives failed in the same place, but the disc structure seemed intact. Wouldn't work in my chipped PS2.
Tried an external DVD writer today and it sailed through - no errors.
Burned a copy of the iso and it's now working fine on my PS2. So yeah, keep trying. I've heard that the Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive is particularly good at recovering damaged discs so if you've got one of those around get the PC drivers for it and give it a shot.
