    SATURN SOPHIA SYSTEMS BOX- HELP!

    Hey guys...
I finally booted up my sophia today, and can't seem to get it to boot from CD... It does not even spin the disc, so it's not the wrong region...

can anyone else with one tell me what setting they have to boot NTSC-J games?

    Thanks!
    :o)

Err, are you sure the drive is OK? They are notorious for breaking, and you DID buy it from legit!

By "anyone else with one", were you referring to me, Kevin or Lawrence?

Worked fine when I sold it - I suspect he right hand set of dips though it's been so long I forgot the settings.

The drives are notorious for breaking, but it worked the day I packed it and also a spare drive was included.

As for "anyone else with one", I would assume that he is refferring literally to "anyone else with one", :smt083 that would include yourself, Kevin & Lawrence and neither in particular :smt023

I'd look up the settings, but can't find the PDF. My manual is in Japanese. And Antime's site is down.

    ANTIME - what's going on?!?

Its probably not the drive, the DIPs have to be in a specific position or the system will not try to load from disc.

You need 2 SH2s don't you? That or the ICE, which he doesn't have (unless he found one).

I thought the error message was pretty clear; the site has been moved to http://www.iki.fi/~antime/sega/.

    UPDATE:
Well, still does not work... i have tried those highlighted settings, and both CD units... and no joy...

before i tampered with the CD, i noticed that the data ribbon looked like it was inserted upside down, and that the CD access light was flashing red when it booted... after changing that over, it does not flash anymore... which i guess is a good thing... but i have no idea what else i can try...

If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know...

And actually, "You are not authorized to view this page" isn't a clear message as to what happened. Nor is:

The ribbon couldn't have been upside down - I never pulled it out and it worked like a charm! 1 other thing if i rmemeber though if you set the dip to PAL video output it never seemed to work. Video output worked fine on NTSC though, but maybe that's because I only had NTSC games.

lol, yeah i noticed that, but i can see everything on the screen just fine... the date setting, the cool intro screen... but thats all... it hangs on the logo...

If i sent a CD unit to someone with a sophia, perhaps they could see if the cd works with their system?

LeGIt, did the CD access light always flash red?

    :o)

I really can't remember if it allways flashed red, but I do remember it did illuminate! I suppose you have tried different discs? Music CD's and other games etc?

yepp tired a few games... but its pointless... as it does not even spin the disc, move the laser, or anything...

anyone else able to tell me if the drive is:

A: suposed to be connect to the board via the data-ribbon text-side down...

B: is the access light ment to flash all the time, from the second it boots.

    :o)
