No. Months ago APE couldn't get it working on one gamecube.
Today I tried myself on a different gamecube and had no luck either. I'm not going to try reassemble it now. Waste of time since it'd have to be taken apart again to make another attempt.

I really need a cube from Japan also? That hurts man. After I shelled out for a full DVD case, and waiting for a modchip to hopefully arrive...
Well it's no big loss. Just money. I'll see this special gamecube finished one way or another.
Do you want the cube I took apart? I have no use for it anyway if unsuitable for our project in the first place.

Need for Speed the Run @ £19.99 via Origin
Meh it was an impulse buy TBH - could have got it cheaper if I bothered to shop around or wait for it to end up in a bargain bucket, but it is one of the last few games I need to add to my collection for the DirectX 11 experience.

Sega Dreamcast: Evil Twin Cyprien's Chronicles Beta [Bananabreak]
Sega Dreamcast: Ball Breakers v0.800 GD-R Beta [Bananabreak]
Sega Dreamcast: Chicken Run Source Code [Bananabreak]
Sega Dreamcast: Street Fighter III 3rd Strike v1.000 NTSC-U Beta [FLT]
Sega Dreamcast: Carrier v0.100 GD-R Beta [Bananabreak]
Sony PlayStation: Deuce (UNRELEASED)
Most games are alright. Others don't like running under English mode. It is *NOT* in fact anything to do with Freeloader, as common opinion makes it appear.
A chipped system gets the same corrupt text and/or saving problems in affected games. My Radirgy refuses to access memory cards.

Japanese text displays well.
I only have a one jpn game, that being Rockman Exe,if I run it on my modded Wii the text is garbled,on my Gamecube it displays the japanese text correctly.

You can't convince a believer of anything; for their belief is not based on evidence, it's based on a deep seated need to believe.
Hmm good question. Not sure if Rockman Exe can test what I'm after.
Zoids Vs III (don't own) is among the worst victims. Character dialog turns into mashed potato soup.
It was the main reason I installed a region switch just to see if the japanese text would display correctly and it did.

Clearly we're overlooking something. I've seen enough weird things to think you and ape are both right thus far, but that leaves "why".
Rockman Exe is so cheap I might grab one sooner or later for testing. Even though I've got its US disc.
Maybe language issues on Wii are different than Gamecube? I don't think I've actually tried cube imports with Wii. never had reason to before.
A region switch also bypasses the fact that some games cannot save without the proper Japanese support, Donkey Konga for instance.
The Bios should be identical. Japanese launch units, if I am remembering correctly, even had the US bios support via a switch, before the US launch obviously. NR readers are the same way, with a USA and JPN switch (in fact, if you take out the NR drive and put in a retail, there you go, a normal retail console).
I guess it's possible later US units took out the Japanese font. That'd very directly explain the discrepancy here.
Hmm,from me testing both of my gamecubes, one being a launch and other without the component port I can't see any differences but I only have one import game.

Time to do some testing.

Other games to check text include:
Sonic Mega Collection, Nintendo Puzzle Collection, Kururin Squash.
I have a PAL gamecube that's been modified with a qoob chip and it has troubles with Japanese text. There's no Japanese text in the language setting, therefore games such as F-Zero GX will lack all the menus (the entire bitmaps for different options, not just the letters) and it becomes impossible to play! I had to buy the US version of F-Zero GX in the end cause I wanted to play it on my modded GC (for 480p).
<- can someone please make this as a repro and sell it so me?
