I picked this beauty up on my travels.
Isn't it gorgeous
And here it is looking fantastic on a Toshiba HD screen via a Maicomsoft XAV2-s
When I picked it up the Mega CD was covered in crap and the front panel was pulled out.
So I cleaned it up but it wouldn't play any discs. SHIT!! I thought, so I took it apart and cleaned inside and the laser. It would read discs but spit them out as if there was a read error. So I turned up the lasers power at the back of the laser unit and it worked!! I left it running for 2 hours and not a single problem. Just a shame I'm back off on my travels again tomorrow.

The first MEGA CD...Remember reading game magazines as a kid, dreaming of having it. How much was it?
I so hate SEGA for getting rid of all those beautiful blinking lights on the western version. They only left the Ready and Access.

Nice find, found mine at a thrift shop for $7( they didn't know what it was). Had a japanese copy of vay in the drawer but surprisingly worked perfectly fine. I am curious how much did you get yours for as well.
Got a PS2 SCPH-39001 in mint condition (though the laser could use a replacement) for some USD 88 approximately (which is quite cheap considering they usually go for USD 100+ around here).
Time to open it up and see which modchip is installed :D

The Mega CD 1 is very expensive in Japan these days. A mint boxed unit is going to cost about 25'000 to 35'000 yen! Even a normal good one boxed will cost about 17'000 yen. I paid 11'000 yen for mine with a load of games and a Mega Drive and it was covered in crap with no box. Sold "as seen". I don't need the Mega Drive though since I have 3 already. I'll probably bin it or use it for parts. Actually, I want to vinyl dye one of the Mega Drives white. I just have to find out what dye to use.

PS: Use www.xe.com to convert yen.
I keep hoping for some fairy tale and I'll find a PAL Mega CD 1 offline. As if that'll happen here.
Very nice MEGA-CD there Mark, I'm still dreaming about finding one at some stage but shit they're expensive!
Finally after searching every corner of the internet (possible?) I found the BatGirl figure for $53, every where in Australia and Australian online stores had this figure for $80-$120. Probably a lot of you didn't know I like DC and Marvel stuff :P
Such a nice statue though :)

35000 yen? Almost the same price of a non-working unit available on MercadoLivre.

Mega CDs are just plain expensive on our side of the water.

Not much surprise unfortunately. Mega CD is region locked against Genesis, on top of insane postage. So few users in the americans import them.
Picked up an E3 2002 Clock Tower 3 promotional t-shirt, excited to see when it arrives. Bloody steal too for $1 (well, $12 including postage) but either way. I'm not going to complain about that!
Oh man why cant they release games like Eschatos over here in the states!?!?!?!?! These are the games I wish they would bring over. I only know of a few shooters on the 360 released here, like Death Smiles, Raiden IV/Fighting Aces, Akai Katana. We need more shooters!!!!! Feel Lucky Yakumo for being able to score such awesome deals!!! :)
How much is a mint boxed Game Gear these days in Japan??
I was there last xmas but didn't check. I'd like to come back around September... is there any online resource that keeps track of market value of consoles and games in Japan?
Arrow Flash!
Loved that game. My friends though it was a bit basic, but I found it to be relaxing shooter.
Not a buy, but, my mother is shipping me the Coleco Vision our family used when it was brand new. It reportedly has over 50 games, a bunch of peripherals, and a caddy/console. I'll probably clean, test, and sell it, unless I fall in love again.
Many ups this week: an original model SNES for testing (will mod for Japanese carts) a SLEW of flawless games, but, the real discovery was GameCaseWorld.com. Most of you know who I'm taling about, but they really are the best out there. Plus, they do custom work on the cheap.
