    Video tour of Akihabara

    http://www.tokyohackerspace.org/akihabara/

It's a bit chaotic video, but better than anything on the net.

Now if only you guys could see a video form the late 1990's. You'd be shocked at ho w much downhill Akihabara has gone. In the late 90's all thouse DVD porn shops and Maid Cafes where cool indie game shops.

So true, it used to be many times as much stuff before the fucking anime stuff ruined it all.

I watched all of em. One of the more interesting videos i've seen on Aki.

I'd still like to visit it someday. Even if it's a bastardized version of what it once was.

I thought this was going to suck. The places he went are actually really interesting.

Oh yes, they were a good collection of videos for sure but if only Akihabara had remaind in a time capsule or something. Of course with the latest gaming as well as classics. Just without the far too many Maid cafes and DVD shops.

Well, the anime stuff was there... the jackasses dressing up like anime characters weren't. :flamethrower:
This was of course at a time when any self-respecting person would just shell out money for a hand job from a "normal" person rather than spend the same money to get their ears cleaned by a maid. WTF?!

Er, Japan is generally quite expensive for components, if you want cheap components then goto Kaohsiung in Taiwan. A friend of mine effectively filled up his suitcase with tools and components. PC parts are very expensive in Japan, again certain things were about half the price in Taiwan...

Back on topic, even going back 8 years Akihabara was a different place, personally I only go there if I really am after something else I visit more stores outside of Tokyo as there is much more in the way of bargains and games to be found. Yakumo and Tatsujin would probably agree on this.

Sure Japan is more expensive, but you can't compare it to the rest of asia. There they probably can live a month with the money they got for each sold PC.

yes, that's true. You can find much better deals outside the big city but you can still find some gems at very good prices in Akihabara if you look hard enough.

The love hotels are only a few stops away on the Yamanote line.

Love hotels near the YAmanote line are too expensive, especially in Uguisidani. Go to lesser-traveled areas of Tokyo for better deals on "REST", but "STAY" is usually the same anywhere.
