I live in the US. Have my entire life. Never really been around places that sell sushi/sashimi.
At the university I am attending, there is a sushi shop across from my dorm. I can use my meal plan and get some food and a soft drink and have it count as a meal on my meal plan. I don't have to pay out of pocket.
I got something called "Ultimate Chili roll". It is raw tuna wrapped around rice and seaweed. It has Serrano peppers on top.
I started eating. Tentatively, of course. The first bites were pretty good. I liked the texture and the flavor was pretty good.
About a quarter of the way through, my stomach revolted. "What the hell, man?" It said to me. "You realize what you're eating?"
I had not, in fact, given it too much thought. My stomach continued. "This tastes the was the fist section in Kroger smells! RAW FISH!"
I tried to ignore it and continue eating. Put the next bite in my mouth. This is the point that my stomach too over. It was a silent protest this time. The muscles in my throat merely locked. Here I was with a mouthful of tuna that I was never going to be able to swallow. I assessed my options. "down" or "Out". "Down" did not appear to be an option.
I surrendered. I "liberated" the tuna in my mouth. The rest is still lying in wait in my fridge.
I had a $9 box of Mac and Cheese for supper.
