I totally agree with you - no matter where I have ended up in the world, download speeds blaze along as paid for > but upload speeds suck.

Although isn't this to do with the way broadband works > both up/down share the same stream (which is why downloads go slow when you upload) The ideal system is two dedicated lines > one for up and one for down.

Hmmm... I think we are in danger of going way too far off-topic! Sorry.

Maybe it'll make the demo mode locked ps3s a bit more useful now? Almost bought one of them by accident until I double checked what I was looking at. Nice bargain though.

Lot of money for not much, and apparently, all they have to do at the moment is produces a game even 1mb bigger than 4 gig and it wont run / work.

I always jumped at the idea of mods for machine, but this one really doesnt interest me i must say

It seems there's a problem with the loader software; it doesn't like game updates. If you delete the updates/patches from your HDD then the games work, apparently.

All games work when ripped to the internal HDD. If you rip to an external USB drive, only then are you limited by FAT32's 4GB file size.

I'm not sure what you are talking about, but I've never talked about speed. I'm sure I would be perfectly happy with a 25/25Mbit if I had to downgrade, as long as there where no arbitrary bandwidth caps.

Well it can still run unsigned code which is what I'm most looking forward to. Installing the games to the hard drive would be good though because apparently all games are twice as fast at loading which is good!

Same as with PS2, I wonder if sony will then decide to remove the HDD or give it a slower interface;-)

Yeah pretty much! Haha I don't think they will. Infact I've not heard them address the matter at all yet which is surprising. It could be a feature for Sony to look in to in the future though similar to the install game feature Xbox offers since this pretty much proves it can be done and pretty effectively at that.

Nah, I was joking there. Doing away with the HDD would be overkill, let alone trow the entire PSN strategy down the well.

The fact sony didn't say something could mean they don't know how to avert this easily.

That's because Sweden has one of the best developed data networks in the world. So your argument isn't really realistic.

Well from what I've read the longest has been 90 mins for GOW 3. Maybe they were doing it on an external HD?

So they did it over a USB2 HDD? now thats dumb...

Speaking of which, is it true that the latest PStwo units had USB2 instead of 1.1?

Checked that, yep is still 1.1, and for no apparent reason Irda and ethernet too.

These must be the worst few days over at Sony. Yesterday well known Spanish hacker Demonhades had his blog hacked yesterday (about 3 times), and his SQL publicly leaked. The hackers managed to wipe out his entire FTP, forcing his site to be temporarily shutdown (still closed as of now).

The leaked SQL however contained illegally obtained information for the PS3, such as service manuals, various of other documents and information, and programs/SDKs - all now spreading over the internet like a wild fire.

The leak may further hurt Sony as hackers begin to get their hands on this illegal data and may open up more doors for the PS3, especially with PSJailbreak just around the corner.
Wow thats a pretty big deal for Sony that. Reminds me how a lot of the SDK files for the first Xbox got leaked back in the day if I remember. I've not looked in to what files were actually leaked but need I remind people this is highly illegal if your not a licensed developer!

It's IR not IRDA, and its useful for the remote.

    Yep, basicly ->

Edited: Some good articles about it (don't know if it was posted)

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...lbreak-article

    and this one

    http://www.ps3hax.net/2010/08/psjail...nnable-on-psn/

..., there might be a risk on playing with PSjb on PSN. According to SKFUand RichDevX, the Backup manager game ID (LAUN-12345) could be logged/recorded by Sony when logged into PSN (when online). This would obviously allow Sony to see who would be using the illegal PSjb/clone and we could very well see ban waves similar to the Xbox 360. Sony does currently ban PSN/consoles that results in the 8002A227 error code.
