That would take an update to do and from what I've read the PS Jailbreak blocks updates. Now I don't know if that means it tricks the PS3 in to thinking its on the latest firmware or it just means it wont ask for updates on games. If someone makes a custom firmware though like they did with the PSP things could really change then though

I don't know, I suppose I was expecting something a little more complicated than just a single chip and very simple looking PCB. But considering this is just storing some encrypted data, I suppose it doesn't need to be anymore complicated than a USB memory stick.
Even the BBC have a report on this now.

Looks like it can be easily blocked. All sony has to do is make the PS3 to not 'call' out to the USB ports at all during boot up.
Perhaps this USB key simply contains a PS3 binary that was somehow signed (or exploited to pass authentication)?
Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't this perform the same operating the PS3 repair centers use to restore PS3s/run tests. Which means it's not as simple as blocking USB read at boot as they would still need access to the USB.
I don't think they can afford to lose the PS3 unbricking mechanism.
Perhaps they can ban this specific unit... And issue a new one ...
Or not... :lol: Considering that there's a button push sequence to tell the system to look for the USB device, there's a possibility that the routine which checks for the USB device are in ROM (like the unbrick procedure for the early PSPs, which were also in ROM) and they can't change it at all... :-0

It's the same type of device, and easily detected though not easily blocked.
It is a service tool and about as hard to block as the pandora battery.
If you don't mind not being able to go online it's not bad.
Still are you going to theoretically download 50GB ? Biggest file I seed was 15gb and that's the ENTIRE gopher archive of over 15 years.
You wouldn't download 50GB of course because you own the games ;-)

Man is sony fucked or what? I can't imagine how much money are they gonna loose just in europe. Last time I was there everybody had a chipped PS2, and there were stores that would flash your X360 in a couple hours, safe and simple.
And lets not even mention developing nations: there everybody uses pirate copies.
