Choosing not to develop Crackdown 2 was certainly a business decision they won't regret!

Well judging from what I've heard about APB I'm really not surprised its come to this. The game took a long time to come out and when it did it was full of bugs and hackers. Coming from a game that had so much potential to barely anything at all is a huge disappointment and it comes no shock the community for the game has already dropped 40% from the BETA. I hope someone buys them out and gives them another chance but if it doesn't come to that then good luck to the employees getting other jobs

I think they were kind of boned on that one. Stories I've read imply that after the first one was a success, they wanted to do a sequel, but Microsoft wasn't giving them a green light on it, so they went ahead and focused on their other title in development (APB). Then when Microsoft decided they DID want a Crackdown sequel they were already full steam into APB and couldn't switch gears fast enough. That's when Microsoft formed Ritual to churn out Crackdown 2 in a year or so.

    Really shitty timing. :(

What I remember is the main guy behind Crackdown (whose name I can't remember, but was also behind GTA, IIRC) saying he didn't wanna make a sequel to Crackdown back when it was new, but your version of the story makes a whole lot more sense. Anyway, it was lose-lose for both parties, since APB flopped big time and Crackdown 2 kinda sucks.

Games cost too much to make these days. One failure and it can close a studio. Sad times.

I think MS may attempt to buy it and release a true Crackdown 3

Not to be funny but I think the original Crackdown partly only did moderately well due to the Halo 3 Beta being included within the game. I know a lot of people that brought the game just for that. I enjoyed actually enjoyed the game when it came out was a bit of fun two years ago.

Sorry for the double post but I thought people might find this read pretty interesting. Really sucks if this turns out to be what happened. I really can't believe the game took 7+ years to make thats insane for what the end product turned out to be.

APB plays well if you have friends to play with. Me and a couple of buddies play it and jump on and just see what happens. Im shocked that the game cost as much as it did because it seems very simple. Had they just released a free roam online game with different play modes (DM ETC) I cant help but think this wouldnt bomb.
