I dunno, I've only collected what I played when I was younger... Megadrive, Saturn and Dreamcast mostly. Had other systems but usually sold those on.

All of them. :) But, I'm not much of a collector. Honestly, I'm happiest with MAME and an arcade monitor. But, I have a Super Gun, and my DC, PS2, and Saturn all get good play time. I have an RGB Modded PC-Engine (it has a great library, that's for sure) but seems the nostalgia is missing for you.What's your recommendation GP?
One thing to note though, once I started becoming more of an arcade connisseur (and a horrible speller) PC-Engine and Saturn both lost a lot of their relevance. I can't really play RPGs any more due to time. So, MAME FTW!
I have MAME on my Mac actually and it gets some playtime indeed. I play mostly DoDonPatchi and pacman though. I have a 24" Dell monitor (not taking to Japan) which I rotate to play on,with a USB saturn pad. Not bad really, but not very cool.
The nostalgia for me is in the SEGA stuff. I have quite a lot of Saturn tat, but the masses of Dreamcast content in Japan were what really interested me.
I'll probably get a second hand PS3 in Japan (a few reasons), but also buy a Dreamcast and bring some of my favourites over.
I'll proobably just buy random dreamcast bargains or Saturn stuff. I don't want to amass too much in the year I am there though. Taking it back to England is going to be a pain.
Be like the most hardcore Japanese gamers and myself, import the latest Western games and play them on modern consoles. Transformers: WFC anyone? or the perhaps Japanese version of Prince of Persia: TFS? :)

I was thinking of getting a PS3 when I am out there as I really like my PS3... I also have a 360 but thought about not bothering with that at all. I don't have many games for it except NHL, which takes up 99% of my time on it.
I used to live in Chofu, on the border with Setagaya-ku (so 小田急線). Kind of relaxed place to live, and relatively close to the centre (half an hour to Shinjuku or so, to Todai will take about an hour). Quite some open space next to the river too.

It's harder for me to find a job in the UK than abroad.
I don't need to speak Japanese because I'll be working in a scientific environment where everything's published in English anyway.
I do have Alevel Japanese though so I know enough to get by.

I've got my VISA application on the go at the moment, and it turns out I won't be living in Chofu; I'll be living in meidaimae $BL@(B$BBg(B$BA0(B, which is a little closer to Shinjuku so that's nice!
When I first moved to Japan I lived in Meidaimae... for about 2 years actually. Trainwise it's very convenient. It's a straight shot to Shinjuku or Shibuya, and is an express stop for both. You'll be going the other way so won't have to deal w/ the nut-to-butt traffic for which those lines are famous. They got a Tipness there after I left as well. Has a Starbucks, Dotour, etc. The super markets suck though.
Not sure if you figured it out by the name, but you're right next to Meiji University.
