Microsoft kills the Kin originator of Kinect name

So the Kinect is named in line with a device that's dead after only 3 months in market.

    This is promising!

    3 months?

I thought the Kin only lasted 6 weeks...

I don't think anyones surprised, the fact that they tried to launch an entirely separate phone experience while hyping up their complete revamp of windows mobile with winphone7 definitely was a big 'huh?' in my book

The problem was the carriers made everyone get smartphone rates.

Kin was supposed to be normal phone rates.

Of course, the carriers refused, and kin died.

fwiw I did think that the Kin's desktop timeline stuff looked nice, but the UI for the phone itself turned me off

It looked awesome as a normal phone. Paying smartphone plan, it would suck.

Has there been any quotes on that? I thought they said it was an amalgam of 'Connect' and 'Kinetic'. At no point have they connected the Kin to the Kinect, as far as I was aware.

    The press did.

What a shame. I find it interesting and would import one...

There doesn't seem to be any connection (in name) for Kin and Kinnect, and there would be no use in any connection being there anyway.
